take the time to read through a few other posts just like your own that have been responded to. we often go through a whole list of things to help you pick out what you want.

things we discuss:

60hz vs 120hz
response times
panel types
brand preferences
sizes and resolutions

so please at least try to look around first to get familiar with at least the lingo.

to provide a quick answer: unless you are getting 100+ fps 120hz is useless. that said, some people find it "smoother" but figure you are still using a TN panel which is the lowest end of the spectrum. with your budget i'd suggest an E-IPS type since although its still a 6bit panel like the TN it also features a near 180 degree viewing angle without color distortion which is a bad thing about TN panels. response times are a bit higher and its only 60hz but this is fine. the only reason i can see going for 120hz is if you want 3d.

if you are getting a gtx 590 ..get a 120hz.

24" IPS monitors are normally 1920x1200..however, 120hz monitors are better for gaming if you got a good rig that can push like 80+ fps.

for 120hz (at decent price):

Asus VG236HE
Planar SA2311W
Samsung S23A950/A750 ($450/$399)

S23A950/A750 (expensive) > VG236HE (great price; glossy) = SA2311W (very good; matted)

for IPS (at decent price):

Asus PA238Q (IPS, $270)
Dell U2311H (IPS, $285)
HP zr24w (IPS, $320)
Dell 2410

U2311 is probably best for gaming, but if you want 24" zr24w and 2410 are both great. Asus is also good.

If you game a lot..and have a gtx get one of the 120hz i mentioned above.
