Hi there,

I have a desktop with the following specifications:

Mercury PI865D7 motherboard
P4 processor
SATA Harddisk

Recently my motherboard died and I'm thinking to replace it with a new board and I'm thinking to upgrade the processor too.
So my question is, can I use the same power supply unit, harddisk for the upgraded desktop too or the power requirements vary and do i need to buy a new SMPS too?

If the hard-drive is the same age as the P4, you're better off replacing it for stability sake. Power Supply, if it's 300+ watts, should be OK to keep. If you get a dual-core system or higher you will need new RAM unless your have a P4 system that uses DDR2.
