Hello Team THG,

I am buying a laptop which I want to use as a
Potable desktop ( connected to power ) on a wired
LAN at home and office for CAD computation .

I have a choice between the Intel Pentium M processor 765 ( 2.1 GHz , 2MB L2 Cache , 400MHz FSB) and the Mobile Pentium 4 548 ( 3.3 GHz , 1 MB Cache , 533 MHz FSB ) . I plan to have 2 GB RAM in either case. (333 MHz DDR)

Given this, which machine would give me better compute
performace ? ( I plan to run connected to power supply at most times ) . Are there any benchmarks I can refer too.

Looking at just the clock speed looks like 3.33 might be significantly faster than 2.1 .. but clock speeds are
deceptive. How would these systems compare for performace of
non gui-intensive CAD computations ?

thanks,
Rajan
