Folders disappearing from external hard drive

Last response: in Windows 7

1. Have you hidden them unintentionally?
No matter whether you have hidden them or not, you can show them up like this:
Start => Run => Type in “control folders” and press “OK” =>Click “View” and hook “Show hidden files and folders”=> Press “OK”.
2. Recover them at the aid of a free hard drive recovery tool.
Sometimes, the folders can not be shown as the hard drive is logically damaged. Therefore, in this situation, a recovery tool is needed to copy back the data before you attempt to fix this drive by formatting. This freeware was found as my WD flash drive was logically corrupted. The Windows also asked me to format it by giving a “not formatted error” warning. However, this drive had held all my work files and trip pictures. I could not do that. So, I tried this one that eventually recovered all my data back. It was worth a shot.
