Sponsored by IBM, it seems to be very much more useful than SETI and I've had excellent experiences with it. It feels smooth, runs @ low priority and is exquisitely well programmed... as far as I can tell right now.
Install it and do your bit... if you feel like it!!! Personally, I find the proposals for projects considerably more interesting than SETI...

Distributed Computing Initiative powered by IBM
I've currently logged on as Mephistopheles with:
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (2.083Ghz)
Intel 2 x P3 933Mhz
I'm planning on also including:
AMD Duron 1.2Ghz
Too bad the agent isn't multithreaded... because if it were, those three computers would make Mephistopheles quite a good user. Also, the Duron 1.2Ghz is plugged in my university's electricity network, so it can actually work 24/7 (it's used for word processing and e-mail reading only), and it has incredible internet bandwidth available.
There's also a room in my university filled with P4 1.7Ghz (willamettes! ew) with PC-800 RDRAM (remember those?) on i850-based intel mobos. Wow, if only I could convince the guys over there to use all 30xP4 1.7Ghz with world community grid screensavers... (preferably with my username in WCG )... Heck, it's a room filled with P4s for early graduation students anyway! These guys, all combined, have less brain activity than my dog anyway...
Note that you can be part of this project while also dividing your cpu time evenly with cancer research via http://www.grid.org
hey, just wondering but is the Human Proteome folding project the same one as being worked on by Folding@home?It's definitely a project with the same aim and using the same idea. Obviously it's exceedingly stupid to have 2 seperate projects working on the same thing, so I hope they're linked.
I only ask because a number of us forumites are in the THGC Folding@Home team. Sadly our motives are purely collective e-penis enlargement rather than furthering the human race, but still...
