My Canon MP600 requires 5 ink cartridges that cost about $15 each, so I figured that I might as well buy a new printer. I don't care much about the speed or quality, though I only use it for copying, scanning, and printing.
My printer usage is similar to yours and I have an HP PSC series printer. Been in use for about 5 years now without any problems. It takes 1 black and 1 color cartridge, and from what I hear, these can be refilled at certain stores.

I've had the HP C4280 for quite some time and I think it's very good. Its cartridges are inexpensive, can be found everywhere and can be refilled tens of times
