Its quite hard to find a gaming notebook with 8hrs of battery life,i can't find any 15-17" laptop that can play games on high settings and with 8hrs battery life,so you have to sacrifice one of this factors

battery life probably doesnt matter because there are plenty of points a school and the settings arent vital just as long as games can play and are not extremely laggy

8 hours for a gaming laptop? If you ever find one let me know! lol

Check this ASUS:
http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Gamers-G51JX-X3-15-6-Inc...

It's $1020 USD. I've been eyeing it for a while now. 4gb ram, core i5 2.26ghz, 15.6 in screen with 1080p resolution, nvidia GTS 360m for 1gb video ram. The reviews on amazon are saying they can run a lot of modern games are full speeds at 1080. Check it.

That looks a good choice ^
Another good option would be ASUS G73
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23..."+Display+/+6GB+Memory+/+500GB+Hard+Drive+-+Black/9741729.p?id=1218165344675&skuId=9741729&st=g73&cp=1&lp=1
If the link doesn't work, search for "G73JH-RBBX05" in bestbuy.

thanks for the replies,
i love the republic of gamers ne. That sounds perfect at a really great price. It sounds stupid but along with those awesome features that colour contrast of red and blue just look awesome. lol

The other one had great features but its just a little more expensive for relatively the same features and doesnt look as good.

i no im shallow but if they have the same features then looks do come in. I will definetely keep my eye on that Republic of gamers one. TYVM guys
