White Water- during game play the contacts at the sling shots will
register points but the coil only fires during test mode NOT during
game play. Where do I look?

Do the other coils work in game play besides the flippers? If not,
check the coin door interlock switch.

Two answer both questions The slingshot switches work in game mode as
well as test mode. and all other coils work in game mode. It's just the
slingshot coils fire only in test mode not game mode.

Have you tested the slingshot switches in the switch test mode? Sounds
like they are wired wrong or something.

They (slingshot) coils were working fine, touch the rubber, contacts
made contact and coil fired. Now the coils only work in test and the
contacts work in test and game play.

Max,

Try doing a factory reset. As Lloyd asked, do the slingshot switches
reflect the correct # in Switch Edge Test?

Something way in the back of my mind tells me there's an adjustment in the
game features menu that lets you turn the slings on/off in this game. I
could be wrong? May be worth checking...

I was cleaning and rerubbering the playfield and things were working. I
think it was after I was replacing all the bulbs under the playfield...
Maybe I did create a loose connection. I will go into playmode and
physically check the other coils one by one since the glass is still
off.

Feeling like an idiot I did change the bulbs with the power on so i
swapped the power drive board and no change to the situation. I also
looked at the contacts behind the slingshot rubbers and they are all
open with plenty of clearance. So back to the problem all coils work in
game play except sling shot coils. BUT I did notice that the while the
contacts do register points in game play they DO NOT register in the
test mode of single switches or switch edges. So what does this mean???

Have you checked the sling shot points in switch edge test and see what
comes up on the DMD ? I was wondering if some how the sling shot points got
wired wrong. LTG :)

OK Lloyd, earlier the switches were showing up in the matrix and after
swaping out boards they didn't. I forgot that extra board has problems.
BUT the good news is I figured it out. The switches were # 57-58. I
noticed that #55 was shomehow connected and closed when it should be
open. #55 was a switch way up under the bolder garden and the new
rubber stuck it in the closed position. I have no idea how that effects
the slingshots but as soon as I open the contact up i reached down the
touched the slingshot and it fired. After messing around with #55 all
is working fine. THANKS A MILLION FOR YOUR HELP! Any idea why it works
that way?

The coils were working fine ? What happened after that ? You work on
anything or do anything ? The coil test power is a little different than
when everything is going. Check other coils with the same color wires and
see if you have a poor connection along the way.

When you checked the contacts in switch edge test, did any other switches
pop up too ? Probably not, but I was thinking maybe you had a short keeping
that line closed. LTG :)

Were you changing bulbs with the power on ? If so, I wonder if you sent a
short back to the cpu and knocked out one of the LM339 IC's. Also any rubber
rings you replaced, be sure the new tight rubber isn't holding a set of
points closed that should be open. LTG :)

If they don't register in switch edge test and all other switches do work in
switch edge test, I'd start looking for a broken wire. Check both sets of
sling shot switches both sides of playfield first. then check other
switches, and you can check the switch matrix in your manual to see the row
and column they are on. A broken wire at one switch can turn others off.

If you have a lot of switches off, then you may have damaged one of the
LM339's on the cpu. If that is the case, be sure you don't have any light
sockets or wires shorting to metal or any switches before you replace the
LM339. LTG :)

Glad you figured it out. Sometime have a cup of coffee ( or your favorite
beverage ) and look over the switch matrix in your games manual. They are
all connected together. A broken wire can take out the next switch, a stuck
closed switch can short the matrix and make others erratic. A backwards
diode can trigger other switches. The switch matrix is an amazing thing,
simple, yet the littlest thing can cause you headaches.

Good job on sorting it out. And you learned something very important. When
things act up - what is the last thing you did ? That can save you a lot of
time. LTG :)
