Forget the "just can't we all get along" thing. That's not what I want
to ask.

I just want people to remember what this ng is about: pinball. And
nothing but pinball.

There are hundreds of ngs for other issues, from legal to local (New
Orleands, for example) to political. One of the reasons ngs are given
titles is a (sadly, vain) attempt to limit the topics within the
newsgroup.

Hard as it may be to believe, if we stick rock-solid to talking about
pinballs (not even straying into comments about naked women), there'll
be a lot easier sledding here. Heck, we can even get along with folks
who think P*p*y* is a good game :) .

And FWIW, historically politics has gone much better when people start
by finding common ground and encouraging rather than disparaging each
other.

Give it a shot, huh?

Carl,
Tell this to the Pin-Owners who lost everything
they had to Katrina & See wow Happy they ARE NOT.

Not trying to give you a hard time here, But in trying times like now
some people need a shoulder to lean on & thats what Friends are for,
Myself I have Friends in LA, MS & AL who lost everything they had.
Sometimes there ARE more important things than Pinball .

Take Care !

Carl,

I'll agree with you 99.9% of the way, but sometimes things so
incredible happen you can't overlook them. We are on common ground here
and there is nothing wrong with occasionally asking your peers for
their opinion. If someone uses the OT (off topic) header you can refuse
to read the post.

I agree 100%. This is a puplic forum so people can and will do whatever
they want. However I just don't understand all the personal stuff I
see here from time to time.

Just my views.

Thats due to the fact that many of us know each other offline as well as
online. Like a family, we tend to open up a bit more than we would in a
strangers home. Is it correct? Nah. But correct doesn't always mean
right. Some only want a purely academic environment and others like a
more familial atmosphere. Happens in all newsgroups.

We have been through these debates for YEARS, even as long as I have been
involved out here. Carl, I respect your attitude, but what is key here is
that an unmoderated forum on usenet is GOING to attract a LOT of folks who
have their own, er "unique" ways of communicating, regardless of what others
may view as "ideal". I am not saying that I am personally interested in
every topic, nor is anyone else, but the majority of folks here have the
technology (spam filters), common sense, and maturity to choose/ignore what
they are presented with rather than being led by others. Your desire is
honorable, but unrealistic in this forum. Enjoy what you will here,
contribute wholeheartedly according to the main focus (pinball), and move
on. If others choose to "round out" their focus, it's their business; a good
deal of it is harmless - ignore the rest.

That can lead to trouble later on.... like when someone unearths ng
posts from the late 80's and puts them on the web. Nothing you post
ever completely disappears :-( .

So, anyway, what really new and unobvious feature or function could be
added to new pinball machines to make them really popular and exciting?
Sort of like flippers did once, and, more recently, video overlays
didn't.

Very true Cliffy. I just feel that this isn't the place to mention
personal problems, we all have bad things happen in our life, some more
than others but why look for comfort here? When I need someone to talk
to I pick up the phone or visit someone or even E-mail them. I know
several people here on the newsgroup personally and when I need to tell
them about something in my life I call them. When my Father and my
Grandmother died last year, I didn't feel the need to post a message
here. I called everybody that needed to know. When we had our second
baby girl last June I didn't feel the need to post here about it. I
called everybody or sent out announcements.

You can go ahead and call me callous or a Newsgroup Nazi or Police but
it's just how I feel. I'm not trying to tell people what to do, I'm
just saying that for me this isn't the appropriate place to talk about
personal problems. Sorry if I offended anybody.

Let the bashin' begin.

No bashing for you! Try harder! :p
Seriously, I totally understand what you're saying, Rich. I also
appreciate that you don't bash *us* more for getting too chummy at
times. Please understand though that perhaps folks DO get some small
comfort knowing that their friends here care. We all tend to reach out
in different ways in times of sorrow, grief and need (especially when in
need of that unobtanium Pinbot plastic!) Hopefully you won't hold too
hard a line against those here who also care about.... you :)
Take care, my friend :)

Holography! And I mean real holographs, not emulsion film types :) Just
imagine Princess Leia hovering as a holo over the playfield of the next
Star Wars pin. Or the Fantastic 4 all postioning themselves in holo form
in different areas of the game as moving targets!
