Windows 7 Data Transfer

My Windows 7 system won't boot up and I gave up trying to fix it. I bought a new PC and want to preserve my settings, programs, etc. All of the transfer solutions that I've read require the old hard drive to be bootable. Is there a way to transfer everything over to the new PC from just the hard drive?

  1. Hi :)

Only if you CLONE the whole disc...

    All the best Brett :)
  2. Hi :)

Oops forgot to add... it may well NOT boot in new pc as different hardware...

    All the best Brett :)
  3. If it won't boot then there is no point cloning the entire drive, it's too late for that now.

Copy what you need to an external USB HDD using a Linux boot disc, then port it over to your new PC.

Clones won't restore to different motherboards anyway...
  4. What I'm really trying to preserve is my email, iTunes info, game progress, etc. Just copying the files won't get me there.
