What do you axactly mean?

If you want a recommendation for SocketA system. The best CPU you can buy is the Mobile Athlon XP 2500+/2600+ that can be easily overclocked to 2.4GHz/2.6GHz.

If you want to buy a gaming PC right now. I strongly recommends you an Athlon 64 based system. The Athlon 64 2800+ S754 or the Athlon 64 3000+ S939 are both quite affordable and they will both beat any Athlon XP setup.

And you actual MB don't officially support anything faster than Athlon 1400. so you must change all your stuff to get decent performance in new games.

If yon need more infos. Please be more precise in your questions!

If you are asking if you get a new Socket A system to replace your old one and get an XP 2500 CPU to replace your old Duron if you'll get a nig performance increase, the answer is YES.

For several reasons.
1) Newer, faster CPU.
2) Newer, faster RAM (your current setup uses PC133 RAM)
3) Newer motherboard with better features.

Again, if you need more info, you will have to be more specific.

XP2800+, Abit NF7, 1GB Dual-Channel DDR333, ATI R9800PRO 128MB, TT PurePower 420W, LG DVD+-R/RW

I think you mean the A64 3200+ clawhammer.
Dont let these enthusiasts put you off. You dont have to get the latest and greatest. Many people are still buying xp2500, and older setups. It would be a very nice upgrade for you. I would suggest that you get an nforce board, abit's NF7-S is very nice, a chip and some samsung oem ram (2 sticks). If you would like to try your hand at overclocking, get the xp-m chip if you can. They can usually be clocked a fair bit higher than an xp3200.
At the rate things are going lately, you would have 2 to 3 years before you are in the same boat you are now.
Dont get the NF7-S2 board, it has too few options.
