Folding@Home is a LARGE GRID COMPUTING effort. Presently over 100,000 computers and over 400,000 people have contributed. Present speed is approximately 173Teraflops.
Completely nonprofit and totally for humanities benefit. Join the team, it's kind of fun. :-D

Them-><A HREF="http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.ph..." target="_new">http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.ph...;/A>

Seems other people/sites can claim they have great community spirit.

"priyajeet" started a team to do protein folding for humanities benefit and to have this community recognized. We're team 40051 at <A HREF="http://folding.stanford.edu" target="_new">http://folding.stanford.edu&lt;/A> and we could use a little of your help.

Log:
"Team Photon" got left behind faster then a beam of light. "Valhall" and "Team Sweden" can't keep up with us. Loose Association, (wonder if there are any women there to tempt me to switch).

Up ahead, not far actually, is (in)famous team <b>Intel</b>. Come kick butt if you want to :-).

Come on guys, we need more support. Even though we have 38 members there are a few people who havent been folding for almost the past week. If we can get some people folding i know we can make it to possibly the top 100s.

Also is there any way to make this go faster? It's using 51% of the cpu, there's still about 49% not being used when i'm not around. I looked under the configure options but the slider bar is all the way to the right.

I dont why yours isnt using more of the cpu resources, but the answer is yes. Mine will use a 100% if I am not doing anything else.
December 20, 2004 6:45:53 AM

Well im not folding, but its not because I dont want to. After my last WU uploaded something weirded out my comp or the program. It just says: Attempting to download WU. Any thoughts? Some other things have been slowly but surely going wrong with my system. Maybe A virus.
December 20, 2004 7:51:25 AM

Im currently experimenting with Cool n Quiet, and since I seem to be in a silent mood atm I will probably try undervolting evrything too. No folding for me atm.
December 20, 2004 8:04:47 AM

Hadnt thought of that. Ill try dropping it and see what happens. I had the same setup for the last 2 WU downloads though.

I don't know about you guys but it looks to me like there are a bunch of big folds in my in queue. Some around 30hrs and others around 40hrs to process. Not like the general 15 hour ones (and that's full throttle). Anyway, we are still reporting respectable numbers and our <b> team rank is 623</b>.

"Cyberwolves" and "Isolation" have been left out in the cold. "Goblin Market" needs to talk to "BrainTalk" maybe then they could make enough adjustments to keep up with us. "Starmen" might be shooting for the stars but the stars but they can't hold a light to us.

Yeah Team !!!

Hi Sparky853,

Read your post in the other thread and yep.. like wow you're really tearing up the ranks with you work units.
The team thanks you and keep up the good work.

Merry Xmas To You and Yours !

Darn we had a power outage in my district. I shut everything off just in case they'd drop and reconnect all night so I'm off about 16hrs of computation time this week.
Oh well, my average will just have to suffer.

We continue to do amazingly well. We are way ahead of schedule. I don't know where all the extra work is comming from but some people seem to have ratched things up a notch.
At this pace we will be under 500 ranks before XMas. My Christmas wish will come true early.

We have just left "Slinger High" behind. Even a high school is given adults a run for their money!!! We could use a few more adult members on the team. When I joined we were about 20. Now we're around 40. Lots of those who joined have become major contributors. Things are good but we could add members. I think the team is starting to feel like a winner.

<b>The "Intel" team is going down tonite</b>. They seem to have tried to rally but they just don't have the momentum. Wonder if that's going to happen with their CPU's???

Up ahead we see "Ripley Enterprises", believe it or not; hehe! The "NullSet" is going be left feeling rather empty soon too.

Yeah Team !!!!!

P.S. Thanks for the POLL priyajeet! <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/community/modules.php?na..." target="_new">POLL</A>

Man your having a hard time arent you!
December 22, 2004 4:00:47 AM

I have no idea what the problem is... I have the thermaltake silent boost in the Temjin Windtunnel. Every time I increase the voltage AT ALL windows won't load. I've talked to scotchen about it and he can't figure it out either. I have a REALLY good PSU too, the OCZ PureStream or whatever it's called. I think it might be the motherboard, I'm not as happy with the 939 MSI as I was with the 754. My processor runs at like 32 idle and 45 full load... I don't get it.

Well MSI uses this bizaar percentage system. Honestly if I change the voltages AT ALL then Windows struggles... I don't get it. After the holidays I will probably get the EPOX board because I hear it is a good overclocker.

December 22, 2004 4:21:22 AM

Yeah well, Scotchen recommended them to me just the other day, told me that they have good stable voltages and really high voltage potential. Then I just read that you recommended them in one of these threads here. Another problem with this MSI board is the voltage isn't very stable; and I'm not the only person with this problem. It fluxuates quite a bit.

Yeah he did, right now he has the high end 939 gigabyte board. He seems to like it alot. He just got two 15,000 RPM Cheetahs too... bastard.

It is tough, being a poor student.
In Morrocco, they often have a "special student price". It's usually 10 to 50% higher than normal price.
December 22, 2004 9:29:20 PM

Yeah those cards are pretty costly... Anyway, when does this folding stuff post because I'm at 240/400 and I dunno what that means. When I search for my name I don't have anything credited to it...

I am almost done folding an Humongous p1140, those behemoths are worth 600 points a pop !

I calculated that 54 hours of work are required on my 'rig, gotta love the 11 points/hours average, this one will be done in 8 hours or so =)

Have any of you guys got one of those 600 pointers ?

Dont think I have ever had a unit that big. Im doing a p1319 atm, my comp has been on all day and its done 560/2000, wonder how many points its gonna give me. Im on 5821 right now.

<A HREF="http://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummaryC.html" target="_new">Here</A> is a list of all the intimate details about the proteins available for folding.

p1319 is worth 343 points including the 100% bonus for large Work Units, otherwise it would be worth 172 points...

Only 30 more frames to go on my 600 points p1140 =)

In one group we have "Folken" @ 2455 points, "dancn" @ 2454 points, and "Silmatherien" @ 2432 points. Their average daily points are pretty close too. Maybe it will depend on the work unit they draw.. Good luck guys !!!

In another group we have "error_911", "skaarj" and "Carey". There all about 1300-1400 points with like enough averages to make it interesting. Good luck guys!!!

<b>"Intel" is dust!</b> We've just left them behind. At their present pace we will not have them on the same page as us for long.

Believe It Or Not, "Ripley's" just got left behind too. We're at <b>rank 606</b> and this time tomorrow we should be under 600. Originally the team looked like it was only going to be there for New Years so we're about 10 days early.
<b>GO TEAM!!!</b>

Next target teams are "NullSet" and "desolation.org".

Personal note: Sorry for the chest pounding but today I'm the number two contributor for the week..."Yeah"... never going to make it to 1st and just lucky that "Huh" is away this week. Got to celebrate while I can.

Keep up the good work everyone and the best of the holiday season to all the contributors past, present and future.

You guys know I've made websites for like 8-10 years, I could wip something up real quick and then you could post all these updates in a nice layout every day. Just a thought, I don't want to get sued for using the "Tom's Hardware" name though.

Well, I thought that we could explain what folding is on there, have the various links to the downloads and how it helps and then link back to tom's forum for the discussion. It would be really nice if Tom's could put a link up to it like Overclockers.com did, that way we could tap into the people who don't use the community here as well.

Things I found strange were points for the last week, and the date the members joined. The individual totals, compaired to when they joined, dont work either. I hate to be a whistle blower, but something just doesn't make sense.
