Hey,
Ok well im looking to build up my first cousstom PC and im wondering what CPU to go for im a 16yr old not great with the tech side of CPUs and im looking for some help i was looking at Microdirect for CPUs and saw AMD 3Ghz ones but they were a bit pricie then a saw an Intel Centrino "Intel Celeron® 2.8GHz 128K Retail inc Fan (skt 478) (3 year warranty)" for £81 witch is pritty good i think im not sure but can u have one of these in a Desktop computer or are they only for laptops oh and the big question are they any good for gaming ??? if ot vcan you recommend a good resonably priced CPU plz
Centrino actually referrs to a laptop. It is not a chip. No "centino" chip is clocked above 2.2ghz, at the moment. The new "centino" chips are called dothan.
The newer celeronD's aren't too bad. The 2.8 you are talking about is no good. The small L2 cache, and the slow fsb make that chip very slow.
Rather than get a celeron, you may be better looking at Amd xp chips. They are usually about the same price, but they perform much better.
If you can find the extra money for a low end A64, like the 2800+ you will be much better off.
In the same price range as the celery, your best B for B would be <A HREF="http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=6868&GroupID=464" target="_new">http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=6868&GroupID=464</A>
but <A HREF="http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=5330&GroupID=464" target="_new">http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=5330&GroupID=464</A> is worth the extra few quid.
