I really don't know what piece of hardware on my comp is at fault here, so I'll post here. At times when my comp is trying to play an advanced video (3dmark, recently did it on Sims2) the video all of a sudden just vanishes and it acts as though my comp is shut down, but it isn't. My monitor and comp power led is still on. On the monitor it just says that message "Monitor self-test. Your monitor is working properly. check power cord" or something similar. It's quite confusing... Anyone know what's going on? Here's my specs.
-What kind of power supply do you use?
-You might need to plug in extra power plugs to your motherboard and/or videocard..
-Have you updated the bios and motherboard/videocard drivers?
The monitor self test just means that there is no input signal present. It should do the same if you unplug the monitor from de videocard.
On the power plugs: Some mainboards/videocards use additional power connectors. When you "go into 3D-mode" the system has a much greater need of power. Anything that might prevent the extra current from being delivered might cause strange problems.
Come to think of it, there was another wire that came with the vid card, although i didn't think to mess with that. I'll see what i can do with it when i get home. And I don't know what a molex connector is, so I didn't connect one.
Most have a molex, like you plug into the hdd for power, though some have the square hole, like the extra 12v for intel mobos. You dont really need to plug it in, if you like to crash in 3D applications.
