Hello All,

I have MSI KT4AV-L motherboard which takes AMD AthlonXP Processor. I am currently using the 1.3 CPU and planning to upgrade to a faster CPU. Since I just upgrade the Motherboard not too long ago, I would prefer not to spend the extra money.
I am reading/shopping around for a new AMD CPU for this motherboard. I am planning to get the AlthonXP 2600+ CPU. Does anyone of you have any other recommendation? Will the new Sempron CPU be a better choice? Will my montherboard take the CPU?
Can anyone of you give me some feedback?

Thanks

Look at this:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=456

I don't think the 2600+ is available anymore so it will either be a Sempron (Thoroughbred B core-> just a renamed AthlonXP) or maybe a XP3000+/3200+ with Barton core. I think your memory is too old to use with a Barton core with 400 MHz FSB (MSI specs, see link) so you should stick with a Sempron, maybe you can find a Barton with 333 MHz FSB which has better overclockability. But it will probably be more expensive, not much faster and I don't think the mainboard will overclock really well.
Sempron seems the right solution. Speed depends on what you are willing to spend.

Forget the SemPr0n A <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/searchProductResult.asp?Submit=Go&Range=1&DEPA=0&bop=and&description=Mobile+Athlon+XP&InnerManu=1028" target="_new">Mobile Barton</A> is the way to go, all of their multipliers are unlocked so setting them up with a non-standard FSB is a breeze.

Those cores are of exceptionnal quality and most will overclock beyond 2.5GHz on air cooling along with a slight voltage bump, any FSB / Multiplier combinations are possible, be it 200MHz x 12.5, 166MHz x 15 or 133MHz x 19.
