Hey guys,

need some advice on what a good notebook for me to purchase would be.
i would be using it for:

-photoshop, illustrator, indesign etc
-3ds max, autocad (as well as other autodesk products), rhino
-vue
-gaming (light)

been thinking about a dell xps 16 with- i7-840QM
- 1GB DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5730
-8gb of ram.

however i have read that they have heat issues among other things.

any suggestions of alternative notebooks would be appreciated.

thanks

First and most important question: what's your price range? If you're going to be using lots of CAD software, a professional card might be better.

i'd be willing to spend a bit over $2000 aud ( approx. $1800 USD)
i've read that the 5730 isn't great due to to the fact it's got DDR3 or GDDR3 memory type rather than GDDR5?

Well the 5730 certainly wont be great for CAD work... You can try configuring a Dell Precision M4500 on dell's website... should come out to be around $1800 to get what you need.

if you dont mind openbox, check out the dell outlet for a precision m6500 workstation, you could get one within your budget.
