A friend of mine has an ASRock K7VT2 with a 1.1Ghz Duron. He's looking to upgrade and the (rather old) website claims it will work up to a Athlon XP 2600+. As the board will only support up to 266 FSB will the 300FSB Semprons still work with this (but slower, a bit like memory does in slower boards) or will it fail to work (as I believe Barton Athlons did.) I have a funny feeling we'll be searching for hard to find old Athlons but no harm in checking. I'm in the UK if that helps

Where theres inovation, theres a lawsuit

I doubt you'll be able to support a Sempron in BIOS. Maybe, but not likely. You'd be better off finding a good working XP-2600+.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

There used to be an XP2600+ with 266 bus. They discontinued it around the time of the XP2600+ with 333 bus release.

You could use an XP2400+. You could try a mobile XP if the thing has multiplier adjustments (these are unlocked and use the 266 bus).
