around 5 hours not gaming, doing 'school work' like notes, papers, etc. I'll be plugged in when I'm gaming

Starcraft 2(mostly), Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 1&2, Fallout, etc. Medium settings are a must

Majoring in computer science, so programming stuff, also light Photoshop stuff

ASUS G51 is good but its battery won't last for 5hrs(even with lightest of tasks)
Don't expect a laptop to play those games fine on medium settings with a battery life of 5hrs.

There's not much in your price range and screen size that's going to last 5 hours...
