How can I compare the performances of notebook and desktop for raw computation (int and float)?
(Actually I need a computer for real-time music time-streching that use fast-fourier-transform a lot. In desktop i decide Athlon64 3000+ will give me the best performances\price ratio. But my client want mobile).

Wouldn't it be funny if your client was a dog? Think about it...

OK it's your choice:
You can have the boat, or you can have the Mystery Box!
...Hey wait a minute! A boat's a boat, but a Mystery Box could be anything. It could even be a boat

Well, you could maybe buy some, run benchmarks on them, and then return them?

Or you could compare the chipsets and memory systems of like CPUs on notebooks and desktops. In the case of the PM however you're pretty SOL to do that since it has no desktop counterpart.

Or try to talk your client into a LAN party style portable desktop.
