Hi!

I have a "wonderful" Gericom Notebook (Celeron 600). :)
Now, I bought a faster CPU (Pentium III 850).
But I have problems with removing the old.
It is a desktop CPU and has a 370 Socket.
There is a "open" sign on the Socket, and at the other side there is a "lock" sign, but I cant open it.
Here is a pic: http://www.edu.uni-klu.ac.at/~bmei [...] rum/sockel 370.jpg

I hope you can help me :)
Bernhard

OK it's your choice:
You can have the boat, or you can have the Mystery Box!
...Hey wait a minute! A boat's a boat, but a Mystery Box could be anything. It could even be a boat

You'd think if you were making links you could at least make it work.

I have never done it myself, but it looks like the tabs (one or bothe) need to be moved. See if you can slide them out a bit.

Haha :)
OK, I tried it, but there is no move.

Well, I think, I'm not so bad :)

Hehe, looks nice..

Doesn't the mobo/laptop manufacturer say how to remove the cpu?

Reply to tweebel

Thanks.
Hmm do you think, that I'll get an Answer when I write them about my problem?

It looks to me like either the bottom piece (the one that has Lock and Open embossed on it) or the top piece needs to move to one side or the other.

Did you try a flat-bladed screwdriver in the 'open' side, and twisting it to slide the thing over? It might be stiff and need some force - carefully of course.

Mike.

Looks like they're still in the business (gericom that is), they just might help you. If they don't, Crashman will probably know how to remove the cpu. They also have a section on their website with info where you might find something.

Good luck!

Well, I tried that.
But there was no move.
I'l write Gericom an email.

From the picture it looks like you have already slid the slider to the "open" position, now you just need to grab ahold of the CPU and pull it out.
