Has anyone read about the new Netscape?

This thing may actually be even better than FireFox.

Yeah surprising ain't it.

I miss them though. I think Communicator 4.7 was the best of the bunch. Used it so often back then before IE5 came and kicked ass.

I was disapointed. It's highly overrated. Everyone thought so. I gotta go there for Mardi Gras just to see what all the hoopla is about. In a nutshell I'm guessing that place is like a micro-mini Vegas of the south. I have vegas next door to here though so that's where we go.

Nonetheless, the food is amazing. I had some of the best food I can remember in a long time. That city is all about fish. WOW! I don't know about grits though. Butter and salt didn't help. That stuff is prison food. Someone mind explaining that stuff to me?

It's expensive though. It doesn't make any sense either since that place is run down and poor as far as I'm concerned. It reminded me of East L.A. which isn't a compliment. I guess there are million dollar houses there in certain places, but from what I saw, it was pretty ghetto, dirty, and not clean or maintained at all.

It was also my first trip to the south so I was a bit confused if not offended. If I didn't know any better, they simply took all the slaves and changed nothing except that they now draw a meager salary. What the hell is the deal with the racial lines? There's practically no mixing and all the black people make up the low end service sector jobs. All the maids, waiters, cooks, door men, bus drivers, beggers, hookers, etc were black. There were a few exceptions but it looked seriously weird to my eyes. I don't want to draw any conclusions since 5 days isn't enough, but there definitely was a huge difference in the way races mix compared to California. It looked really segregated there.

Bourbon street hookers were damn hot. I've never seen a girl move her ass like that. That street is pretty cool at night, and really packed. There was some decent cleavage to be seen. The bars and lounges have really mixed crowds there with ages ranging from 21 to 110. There should be a disclaimer on the huricane. I don't care what they say, it must be pure rum.

Unless you're drinking 24/7 you have no business being there. Unfortionately I had to be up at 6 am (4am my time) for work so I couldn't exactly stay out all night. The latest I stayed out was 1 am. I simply was exhausted. I had to take a nap every day.

"Work" was good. Got to attend all kinds of cool speeches including one by Madeline Albright which was really cool. I've almost finished her book, but didn't have it with me for an autograph unfortionately. Next year we go to Vegas so that will be better. 2007 is back in N.O. though so I know I'll be going back.

Yeah if you could remove the AOL side of it, that thing would kick arse.

I find it so ironic though, the very people who touted the security of FireFox are those who are now downloading more frequently security updates. LMAO.

My JavaScript teacher took the opportunity today during class, after I mentionned Netscape's new hybrid browser engine technology to blast FireFox. I honestly, quite simply do NOT get the hype behind it. How on earth over 5% of the world suddenly decided to switch when the damn thing blocks JavaScript, something which holds the damn foundation of SO MANY sites, is beyond me. JS is widely used, and we can't even make a damn open() function do its job right in it!

It's got some nice features, I'll give you that. But most of it was already there in previous browsers like Opera. IE7 will have them as far as I know, too, and hopefully the new Netscape will shine, because I am honestly NOT buying into the FF hype so far.

I think you may have overreacted a bit about the South ... N.O. is the South alright, but an exaggeration ... Everything that is wrong with the south is magnified there ... essentially there are two (legitimate) industries ... fishing and tourism/service sector - neither of which pays worth a crap (unless you're the owner) ... Blacks make up a majority ... they elected a <A HREF="http://www.cityofno.com/portal.aspx?portal=35&tabid=7" target="_new">"black" mayor </A> and still the racial lines are as they are. I can't defend the South nor N.O. - but most there just seem to accept it and live by their credo ... "Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!" (Let the good times roll ...)

I can't believe with the two tiered society he lives in its not a concern..... I've been to So Cal & LA many times & the way they treat Mexicans is something else... I saw in La Guna Beach, one of the High Class Beaches, a shed on the way down to hire illegal for yard work & what not.... I said to my brother that lives there, is that a train station, there's no tracks.... He said no.... If I wanted yard work or something like that, I could go down & get one of them for the day..... Must be he's fine with that........

Now what do you call that?????????????????

Mexicans work their way up through the ranks just like our ancestors did. There are mexicans in all tiers of the work force. At my work, there are mexicans making minimum wage, and there are mexicans making half a million dollars a year. All under the same roof.

I simply didn't see that there.

Like I said, I was only there for 5 days. Nonetheless, it was my first impression.

What are you ranting about? Mexican labor? The illegal aliens who cross our border and then work for cheap since they make more money here than back home? The Mexicans who send something ridiculous like 8 billion USD home each year? The Mexicans who are in every part of our society out here? They pick the strawberries and run multimilion dollar companies-and everthing in between. Out here I don't see nearly every low level service job being occupied by mexicans. I see college/high school students of every color, black people, mexicans, indians, asians, white people, etc. I suppose the mexicans have a monopoly on illegal residents (a couple million in this state), but that's because it's better here and they're working their way up the ranks. At least most are. As a midwesterner, you probably don't have a couple million illegal mexicans in your state. You probably don't have a couple million mexicans who can barely speak english in your state. Of course you're going to notice it out here.

I'm simply talking about a clear segregation of black vs white. There was virtually a b/w line that could be drawn in N.O. I could be completely wrong, and I apologize if I am, but that's what I saw in my brief stay there. It was as clear as day.

Out here we don't have a mexican vs the rest of us line that is as clear as day. Mexicans are integrated into every part of our society. Every part.

Fair enough. I can completely understand where you're coming from, since I've seen the work lines and those must look very foriegn to an outsider. I'm not really going to argue about it since your opinion is just as valid as mine. I guess I'm privledged to have a ton of mexican friends and work associates so I see things much differently.

From what other people have been telling me, N.O. is a relatively old (that I knew) and poor city and I should see something like Atlanta if I want to get another view of the south. My next trip is going to be D.C. though since I haven't been there either and have been itching to go see my own capital.

Man - DC is the pits too ... not at all representative (used to live there) ... of anything - it's DC forchristsakes ... go see Atlanta, Baton Rouge, etc. etc ... try Tallahassee - N.O. is very old, and will always stay that way - want to know about the "crews" for Mardi Gras - many are "colored", but only if your fair enough skined to fit into the crew - no dark skinned blacks allowed. The blacks are racist against their own!

Check out the mayor - if your darker than him ... you don't fit in ...

I know about D.C. I really just want to see the monuments and go to the smithsonian. It's kinda ironic that I've been to the capitals of 28 countries, but not my own.

Which brings me to another question about N.O. There was a random-as far as I could tell-parade going through the streets, and it was segregated as well. Is that normal? The back end was the black people (there was a small group in the middle too). I saw two parades, the other was all black people. They both were amazing, except the white people who just rode in carraiges and threw flowers. I was really impressed by the way these women could move and the tunes they played. I liked it a lot. Never seen anything like it before.

It's a trip with all the parades and sh|t there ... and yea, you saw black on black racism ... for real. There is an old rule about the "black" crews ... it's refered to the paper bag test ... if you're darker than a typical brown paper bag ... you don't get in - same for their social clubs (which make up the crews).

If you go to DC and don't make your 1st stop into the Nationl Archives building ... which houses the original Declaration of Independence and Constitution (with the original signitures) - then your sh|t in my book. That's our National Shrine ... the rest is good fun - but the Archives is a must see!

You really should come visit Atlanta if you want to see blacks totally in charge and with unlimited opportunities.
A black sheriff was elected in a Atlanta suburb and fired a group of upper level white and uncle tom deputies on his first day.
Around the Atlanta area racism hasn't ended, it has only reversed. It's a inexcusable shame that the very people who suffered so much raceme is now the people who are responsible for it themselves.
Atlanta has a extremely high crime rate. The murders and drugs are in the surrounding counties as well.
The county I live in isn't too bad yet. There is a buffer county between us and Fulton co.(Atlanta). That county is Cobb and they are extremely conservative there and it will be harder for the Atlanta crime to reach us.

Jake I don't even have any security issues with IE so far. I'm constantly surprised how the community goes nuts about it.

As for my teacher, all he said is what I think as well. FF is overrated IMO, it blocks one thing that is still widely used on the web, and has a rather bad interpretation of many site layouts, just because it uses its own engine for it. I've mentionned its benefits, but to me, they do nothing if I can't access my own work appropriately.

I love IE and am sticking by it. I just didn't buy into the FF hype.

BTW Javascript is NOT a language that can access the machine. You can't run a JS program unless it was compiled, so you need to use a browser with the JS interpreter. Why do you think Flash is relatively safe to use and does not bring in any dangers to your system when used? Because it uses ActionScript, a Javascript derivate. The code is harmless by itself. Unless you bundle some exe with it with actual machine communication code, you cannot cause harm. Someone prove me wrong with hard facts.
Also, that's why Shockwave content can be harmful. SW uses Lingo coding above all, which is a scripting language which can interact with the system it is running on. Therefore Director is a program allowing you to code and create programs who, in the wrong hands, CAN cause trouble over the net.

Seeing all that you guys said, I'd actually like to see which JS codes do what you're mentionning, just for fun.

If it was anything that actually CAUSED problems, and that's understandable given its actual DESCRIPTION, it would be ActiveX controls. As MS themselves put it, they are little programs which permit communication between the machine, the browser and the third party application. This is taken straight out of MS Antispyware BTW.

Anyways, I'll retract all that I claimed if you or anyone can prove me JS is a security threat to the web. As in, JS, the language itself.

It's Java Runtime....

Some people still run 98 as well, but I don't...

I've never ran IE except for Windows Update... I wish that you could get rid of that bloatware, myself... It was supposed to be arranged in the anti-trust violation with Windows...

Nix FF all you want, but it's the cleanest I've ever ran.... I thought you were more open to new tech. than that... [shrug]

Java Runtime isn't JavaScript. It's not even the same language. I would like the information regarding JavaScript's threatening codes.

Quote :

I disagree all the way on the bloatware statement. IE is the fastest to load and far from sluggish. You probably meant vulnerable software, I guess.

Quote :

It was supposed to be arranged in the anti-trust violation with Windows...

Yeah but what would that affect me as a user of IE? I'd still go download it from MS. I still think that trial was ridiculous BTW. Average Joes don't even know where to get a new browser. Removing IE from there would simply create more disatisfied users or confused ones, let alone remove any way to access the net without a CD with browser software.

Quote :

I thought you were more open to new tech. than that... [shrug]

How can I switch to something that won't even run my own goddamn class's content?!
That doesn't make sense RC, in fact I don't think I've ever seen you get this defensive about something, over the fact I can't buy into it for logical reasons. And targetting things that aren't even the right ones doesn't help either, such as confusing Java and JS.

I'm as open-minded as they get. Just the fact I mentionned the new Netscape browser could be the next big thing is proof of it. If IE was causing me real trouble and FF wasn't at all, then I'd have switched. Even there I don't see how open-mindedness has anything to do with not switching to something because the other isn't working too well anymore. The things I attacked FF with were the things that bothered me because of actual academic reasons.

Well, I didn't mean it that way... In the last 3 months, I've tested & evaluated several new programs... I've found all of them were better than what I'd been running.. So I changed the way I did things.....

In the 14 years I was on the computer in engineering, programs have came & went.... The key for me has always being flexible to change.... I'm usually at the forefront of change, so it keeps me young as well as learning... I don't discount things on someones say so... I test them out for myself, my use & then, incorporate them or, get rid of them...

As for Netscape, I don't hold much hope for it in AOL's hands... I've ran Netscape as my primary browser since GM got hooked up to the Internet, until about 3 months ago... So I know how a good browser works & also knew when it went to crap... I researched FF, tested it out on what I do, had a few problems, but solved them... FF to me is as good as Netscape was when I went on it years ago, if not better... IE has never been in consideration for me as a primary browser or GM.... What can I say, it comes from my years of use... If IE becomes better, I'll look at it again, but it's got a long way to go, for me.... [shrug]

Avast anitvirus is one. We tried it out quite a bit around here awhile back.... The Beta MS Antispyware is another.. I like both quite well... I took off Adware, SpyBot & Spyware Blaster... I'm cleaner now than I was....

I don't listen to music on the computer, really..... I'm a gamer, so that's what the 5.1s are used for... [shrug]

Roger Wilco for chat...

You really ought to keep Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster and Ad-Aware around ... only Spybot adds any drag, and it's barely noticeable (and it's still the best overall) ... SpywareBlaster is a passive blocker (put's killbits in Reg) and Ad-Aware is "inactive" until you do a quick scan ...
