A friend of mine gave me 2g's to 1. build her a new top of the line, stable computer and 2. upgrade her current computer so her kids can play games on it.

I do not need to buy monitors only the pc itself.
Would it be better to spend about 1500 on the new computer and 500 on the old one? She currently has a gateway P4 2.26 pc, with 512mb ddr133 Infinion ram, with a entry level geforce video card.
For 500 I was thinking about getting a Athalon socket 754 board and a geforce6600 video card. Would I be better off to just upgrade the ram and video card only on the old computer and would 1500 leave me enough to build her a great computer.
For the new computer I was thinking about waitng until the new nividia 4 boards come out(non sli). Is that a good idea?

You mean the nForce4 Ultra's and vanilla? They're already out:

How old are her kids? When you say DDR133, you mean DDR266 right?
For younger kids, a 6600GT would be enough. Does she game as well? If yes, get her a 6800gt and a s754 3400. See, I'm being sexist. If she games and OCs get her a 3200, either for s939, or s754. Either one will give decent OC. At least above 2.4.
Tell us what she uses her computer for, and how old the kids are, and what games they play.

Her kids are younger-between 6-8. So kids games but she wants it to last, so I would lean towards a higher end card.
I am sure the memory is 266-it said 133 on the stick but it has to be 2x for 266, thats my guess anyway.
She does not really game the way we would think of gaming, but she wants a nice computer, and she may put a few games on it but nothing too crazy.
I wouldnt think that they would play anything as intense as doom 3 or halflife2. She puts a bunch of junk on her computer that slows it down. I think she will mainly use it for day to day type use, word search the net etc.

Are you certain the old RAM isn't PC133 SDRAM?

I thought it said "512 ddr 133 infineon." Being that it said DDR, doesn't that rule out it being old sdr pc133?

Of course if it's DDR it's not PC133...are you certain it didn't say "333", or something? I'd want another look at it.

I just saw another post where a module lable was repeated, yes, it was Infineon, and it said "PC2100" on one line and 133MHz on the next, so don't sweat it.

That is exactly it. I went over there and checked it out tonight; pc2100 on one line and ddr133 on another.
I installed the new ram and video card, all is well.
Thanks
Matt
