What is everyone's opinion on purchasing refurbished components? I am building a computer for cheap and saw a deal on a refurbished CPU with heatsink and fan. Is this a good or a bad way to cut costs?

I have purchased a few refurbished cpu's from newegg. They are probably just customer returns which can't be sold as new again. Who knows, maybe they straightened a pin or something. I never had a bad one, but would be cautious who I bought them from. How much can you save over new?

That's what I'd like to know. But, there are plenty of places to find refurbished CPUs for cheaper than new.

Most are chips that were returned as bad, but were actually fine. Chips are never really refurbished. As long as you get a warranty, no problem.
