Please please please could someone help!
I'm trying to format the hard drive on my dell as I'm giving the pc to
someone else. I thought I'd done it, and then installed windows 98 but for
some reason its not allowing me to change to a higher resolution so I don't
think the video drivers have installed properly. To do the reinstall I just
used the windows 98 disc - should I have used the system resource disc that
come with the pc?
I thought I'd start all over again and try and format the drive again but
now its not letting me, and when I put in the format c
s command at the a>
prompt it just keeps saying 'bad command..'
Argh! I'm tearing my hair out here as I don't know where to go from here -
could anyone give me any advice - would be much appreciated.

Reformatting and a reinstall won't help.
Your machine should have come with a resource disk,
which has the drivers on it. Or you could go to the
video card makers web site and download the latest version.
If you don't know what the video is, then use the Dell
supplied ones from the disk. You can also go to support
at dell.com enter your service tag and find out what you need and
download them from there.

The command is format c: /s and notice that forwardslash is next to the s
and one space away from the colon. The resource disk has all of the drivers
needed for proper operation. Dell has instructions on their site as to
reinstalling the Operating System. Which model Dell is it? Then I can point
you to the correct site.
