Asus computers keyboard backlighting problems

My ASUS computer is 2 years old and the keyboard backlighting just stopped working. Is this to be expected? Any suggestions to get the lighting started again?

provided that you didnt turn off the backlighting through some setting in the software drivers included (i know razer has this on/off function) i'll assume its a hardware issue..

my guess would be that the tiny module that powers the leds burned out or stopped working. doubt its the leds as they have a very long lifespan. its probably not worth the time to look at it unless you're familiar with repairing electronics.
