Hi All, I am new to Tom's Hardware,

I have an Acer Aspire 7750 laptop Win 7 HP 64 bit, latest bios version 1.20, 8GB DDR3 and will add a second drive (SSD to be 'C' drive) in the allotted space - I have the correct back plate (door?) and new Kingston HyperX SSD - however I also have a couple of queries......

The original drive is 500Gb HDD and the new SSD is 120GB, can I install Win 7 Pro, I happen to have a spare, on the new SSD primary drive and access and drag &drop files on to and from the HDD Win 7 HP?

I have built many PC's but am new to SSD's are there any hidden snags to installing an SSD? i.e are there preferred drivers or would windows find it's own as usual? or new SSD firmware?

Many thanks,

A

Good day.

I am still learning, so please forgive me if I am wrong. I would recommend waiting for answers from the vets, but the answer to your question is not that difficult.

As I understand, you are concerned about how to transfer data from your old HDD to the new SSD. First things first, don't worry, installing an SSD is fairly easy, there are no *pony tailed monkey*-like acrobatics that would be needed. If your SSD is an external drive(which comes enclosed in a case with USB outlet), transfer files by just drag and drop. If it is an internal drive, consider getting a cable. (It's very cheap for all I know)Then the same drag and drop holds. http://ocz.com/consumer/ssd-guide/how-to-install-ssd The above link gives easy steps how to install an SSD. And congrats on the new SSD, it's perhaps the best upgrade you'd do your computer for the time being.
