All,
I get an inconclusive error message (who'd have thunk it with MS...) when I try to run most GL based games (or any games using QIII engine). Gives error concerning appcompat.txt and closes the game. I'm running Geforce2 GTS w\Athlon Tbird 1000 using latest drivers. I've even tried changing back to the old detonator drivers. This got a little farther (through the splash screens of most games) but then gave same error. I'm thinking it't video driver but I've tried all drivers from Nvidia. Doesn't seem to be much about this error out there . Thanks for the help in advance.

have you tried: Start/All Programs/Accessories/"Program Compatibility Wizard" ?

It's always the one thing you never suspected.

I've attempted to run it in Win98\ME compat. mode and in Win95 compat. mode. Same error.

When was the last time you ran Windows Update? There is an XP compatibility update there. Install that at least and see what happens.

Additionally, you should check if NVDIA Stereo drivers are installed. If they are installed and your stereo is set to ON this could be the problem. Some games that do not support stereo just ignore the setting. Others will crash, sometimes with weird error messages.

Oh, and one more thing: NVIDIA drivers are very touchy about any Antivirus programs running during driver installation. Problem with XP is that even if you disable Antivirus in the taskbar and/or through MSCONFIG Start-up it may STILL be running as a service, especially if you have Norton Antivirus (NAV). You must disable ALL NAV services before installing NVIDIA drivers or you may have problems.

I have the latest updates (That was the second thought on my mind when the error happened). Also, I know the game supports stereo...so I don't think it's the second option either. The anti-virus thing might be a solution though, I'll give it a try and see what happens. -Thanks!

Tried the anti-virus thing. Still get the error message. Any further suggestions would be appreciated!

Man, I'm stumped.

Looking through some of those, try clearing your cache and temporary files. Extensive cleaning help can be found here.

I'm not sure what to look for, though. Can you please give the entire error message?

Bryan
