I have a home network using the MN-700 Base station
(located on top of a 6 foot bookcase), a notebook with
the MN-720 (about 25 feet from the Base Station) and two
desktop units with MN-730 PCI adapters (about 30 feet
from the Base Station). The desktop computers' OS is XP
(SP2) and the laptop's OS is XP, but has not been stepped
up to SP2. The network usually works fine but the signal
strength fluctuates greatly (from Very Good to Very Low)
at each computer (this was happening BEFORE SP2 and now
continues!). This happens without any changes in the
location of either the Base Station or the computers and
within a time frame of minutes. There are no appliances
or other devices that are cycling when this happens nor
is there any other activity (people moving around) when
this happens. Also the connection speed varies from 54
Mbps to 1 Mbps (without regard to the signal strength) at
the same time. I have tried repositioning the antennas
and this does not have any long-term effect. I have the
latest Firmware update at each device, but the
fluctuations were happening even before I updated.

Does anyone have any ideas why, how or if there is a fix?

Thanks,
Jerry
