310.70 gtx 680 drivers fail to install

I tried to update to the new 310.70 whql driver and when i try to install it the installation fails. i tried to use an outdated driver and that failed to install. win 7 64 bit, asus gtx 680 dc2, asus p8z77-v lx

I have this problem with the drivers self-extracting archives quite often.
A possible fix, that works for me a majority of the time is to open the .exe file with a program such as 7-zip, and manually extract the files to a folder. After this, THEN run the setup.exe and continue from there.

I had a same issue but finally I found the solution that has worked for me
a) go to administrator login through mode (reboot F8)
b) install the latest driver
reboot and enjoy
