1_What is your budget?

$800 maximum. Ideally closer to $700.

2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

Looking for a 13in or 14in.

3_What screen resolution do you want?

1366 x 768

4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

Portable with some power behind it. I have a desktop for heavy gaming and other needs.

5_How much battery life do you need?

At least 5+ hours using programs like excel or word.

6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

Gaming isn't needed, but lower end gaming capability would be nice. Looking to play indie type games like Portal, Torchlight, Trine, Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends.

7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, watching movies, Etc.)

Mainly watch movies, general work in microsoft suite and web surfing.

8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?

Not a big deal, standard 320GB drive would be plenty more is always welcome.

9_If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

Amazon, Newegg or other competitively priced retailers.

10_How long do you want to keep your laptop?

Few years. Will be used while I'm gone from home.

11_What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

DVD-RW if possible.

12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

Not a fan of HP or Compaq had terrible experiences with them. Had good experiences with MSI, Asus, Acer, Gateway(long time ago) and Dell. Never owned laptops from Sony, Toshiba or Lenovo and wouldn't be scared to try them.

13_What country do you live in?

USA

14_Please tell us any additional information if needed.

Other things that would be nice is a built in webcam, a comfortable keyboard with spacing between the keys (like a macbook) and under 5lbs.

I've been looking into Acer's Aspire TimelineX 14 inch model (4820T). It has a good price point and nice processor and close to my ideal price range. Also have been watching Toshiba Portégé R700, but it is out of my price range as of now. I'm worried that these models might push out more heat then I'm used to from a portable. I wont mind this as long as it isn't burning my legs off aka too hot for my lap or hands.

Hi there,

The Toshiba Satellite L640 is also worth checking out. It has a 2.3 GHz AMD Turion II P520 processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 dedicated graphics. It has a 14" screen and weighs 5 lbs, so it is very portable.

What do you think?

Heya,
I have the M11x R2 and I absolutely love it to pieces. It is the best laptop that I have every owned. I used top own a macbook 13 and the build quality on the M11x is superb. I base model m11x r1 with a su7300 would more then fit ur needs for power/portability. The fast track r2 is a little over your budget, but it is a fantastic performer.
Cheers

I gotta say this is a nice price. The only thing that is lacking is the battery life and the keys aren't spaced (I have a hard time typing on a un-spaced keyboard, silly fingers.) but this can be worked around. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggesting but not something I'm looking to buy.
