hi good ppl I have the "PT8 Neo-V MS-7043" mobo, and I just bought a Intel Pentium4 Prescott 3ghz (fsb 800mhz HT) for that motherboard (wich is supported)
I had a Pentium4 Northwood before @ 2.53ghz/533mhz fsb, wich worked FINE.. no problem at all
when I tryed the new one i started getting problems with my OS
internet explorer crashed sometimes
I got CRC errors in rar archives (wich unpacked fine with the old CPU)
I got errors in benchmark apps, like prime95 and 3DMark03
so I thought it might be the os, so I reinstalled the OS, didnt help!
I updated all chipsetdrivers, flashed bios, turned HT off in bios, tryed other PSU (running @350W 5V@35A | 12V@17A | 3.3V@20A, right now) to low?
I tryed the CPU in another computer, worked fine.. only did the torture test with prime95 and unpacked a rar archive, but it worked fine.
Ive got a tip that it could be the DDR RAM, I have PC2700 ram default, so I tryed PC3200 memories.. didnt help (
feels like Ive tryed it all, with no success
one funny thing.. when I reset the bios (with the jumper) and boot up, the cpu workes fine for a while.. then after rebooting its back to normal "crappy" cpu.. dont know what to make of that if any1 could help me just a bit Im more then greatful!
greetz!
I'm assuming your motherboard and bios is supposed to work with prescott and 800 MHz fsb.. correct ? If so, the one thing I can think off is a overheating northbridge.. try putting a fan on it ?

yep, it should support it (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=597)
now.. the northbridge is smth im not quite familier with.. could u describe where I can find that on the mobo?

thnx
from your link:
Supports up to 3.06GHz and P4 Prescott / Prescott Celeron up to 2.8GHz.
I read that as Prescott and prescott based celeron are only supported up to 2.8 GHz. Your motherboard most likely can't handle the power requirements of the faster parts, I think you're out of luck.

nah, its not hot.. dont think its a heatingproblem att all.. since I can startup the maschine from beeing shutof for days, and directly it starts driving me insane
I'd rather have the 2.53 northwood, unless I was wild about overclocking. Of course I'd never touch that board, unless it just happened to fall into a batch of junk parts I picked up from an auction.

no way, cant be it, cuz if u press "CPU support" @ that website, u can find my cpu in that list:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/prod [...] 597&kind=1 and to be even more sertin about that, the reseller I bought the cpu AND mobo from (www.komplett.se) recomend this mobo for that cpu and the other way around.. so that cant be it
haha, I found the problem! I increesed the vcore with 0.07v and it did the job! the vcore was to low default.. thats kinda bad thought.. but damn Im happy
If you had to up the voltage to get it to run correctly then I doubt you have solved the problem. Which prescott did you get? Post the specs of the CPU. Not the speed, but the model numbers.
