Hello everybody, haven't been keeping up to date with CPU news, just saw a new batch of venice cores come into the shop today, 3000+, 3200+, 3500+, 3800+, too bad all with 512k L2 cache. I've got a 3200+ Winchester right now, and is looking for the San Diego core based 3700+ with 1mb L2 cache to upgrade to. Anybody know when AMD is planning to release those?

Monarch has the 4000+ out on May 6 and the 3700+ out on May 19 in the OEM versions. Retail is out on May 20. I too am interested in seeing how these stack up to Venice in standard and OCed performance.

Will be interesting to see the differences. From what i've seen in previous large vs small cache comparisons (512KB vs 1MB), the larger cache had little or no impact on performance. That does seem odd to me, but we'll see what the new benchmarks have to say on the issue. Is AMD continuing the practice of downclocking the 1MB cache cores down 200Mhz from the similarly rated 512KB cache CPUs.

3700+ yeah i can't wait to get my hands on one, the 11x multiplier will help me in overclocking a little:D i'll try 273x11, first thing for the 3000mhz. Right now my winchester 3200+ got me to 2950mhz, with 1.9 Vcore, so i'm hoping the new revision can get me that extra 50mhz with moderate vcore(1.7-1.8ish) not extreme voltage.

From everything I've heard about th Venice cores, the San Diego should get you that extra 50Mhz without a sweat.

The rating are close, but not the same in this case.

The 2.2 GHz, 512KB cache Venice is the 3500+
The 2.2 GHz, 1 MB cache San Diego is the 3700+

The 2.4 GHz Venice is the 3800+
The 2.4 GHz San Diego is the 4000+

So I guess AMD thinks an extra 512 KB of cache is worth 133 MHz in clock speed. We'll see. Hopefully the cache in the San Diego is the same speed as the cache in the Venice.

Interesting - not sure if the 1MB cache is gonna be worth the +200 in the PR rating....
