U2412m or U2711 or U3011

I am in the market for a new monitor(s). I have a EVGA Nvidia 460 GTX Superclocked GPU. I am torn between two U2412m's a U2711 or a U3011. There is a local person that sells the U2412m for $300 so it would cost me $600. The U2711 would cost me $780 and the u3011 is $1100. It's hard for me to justify $1100 for one monitor but if it's worth it I would pay for it. Basically I do web design as a hobby and I game a little bit so at any given time I would have photoshop, dreamweaver, FileZilla, MSFT Word and ext. open. So which would be better? Having two monitors would allow me to have photoshop and FileZilla open on one monitor and dreamweaver in another. But then the 27" or 30" have higher resolution so I still could have all three programs side by side?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I prefer the higher resolution monitor. u2711 or zr2740w $700. I love my u3011. I think the 27' are a better value. I'll say start with a 27" and add another one next year. You won't regret it. You can also go for the u2412m, but stay away from these pc sites or an apple shop or anywhere you might glimpse at a high resolution monitor.

My $0.02

I have a zr2740w and a u3011. I like the u3011 a lot more.

The pixels on the zr2740w are too small and it often makes desktop apps hard to use. The zr2740w is good for games though.

@younscarface, I am confused about what you are trying to say: "but stay away from these pc sites or an apple shop or anywhere you might glimpse at a high resolution monitor."

@MagicPants thanks for your reply! I think U2711 would be a better money value, since it's only $899, compared to $1399 for the U3011. How well is text displaye3d on the high resolution?

The problem with the zr2740w is that the AR coating is too coarse for the pixel density, and HP really goes overboard with it.

The u3011's AR coating is less severe, but its pixels are larger too. The high density 27" monitors start to have issues when you want to play a fixed resolution game on them. Playing plants vs. zombies on the desktop was like trying to play a game off a postage stamp. Text in general feels too small.

Games that scale are not a problem (Skyrim was fine.)

I think you'd be better off with two u2412m's for everything but photoshop. For that it's hard to beat a u3011.

Well I just picked up a new U2412m from CL for $280 with valid 3 yr warranty and I love it. Bests my ASUS LED monitor out of the water. I'm going to pick up a second one for sure now.
