Ok, be forwarned, I'm gonna basically throw out everything you have there.

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535" target="_new">Athlon64 3200+ Venice S939</A> - $202.99

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152049" target="_new">Chaintech VNF4</A> - $88

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227213" target="_new">OCZ 2x512MB PC3200 ValueVX</A> - $104.91

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144357" target="_new">Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB 7200RPM</A> - $109

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814164041" target="_new">Rosewill Radeon X800XL 256MB</A> - $259.99 with code CNETHELP1

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129157" target="_new">Antec TX640B w/ 400W PSU</A> - $110

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106965" target="_new">Lite-On SOHW-1673S Black DVD+-RW DL</A> - $54.99

You're looking at more like ~$930 for that setup and then shipping. However, you'll get a much better system for the money. The X800XL will destroy the 6800 128MB in gaming and going for the Venice A64 and nF4 will give you the opportunity to overclock if you ever feel like it whereas the The K8V-X will limit any overclocking ambitions you may have.

Also it's never good to skimp on the power supply either. The case and PSU I chose isn't even that good, but it should do and it's relatively cheap.

Dont diss VIA. They got their act together with the A64 and my comp is 100% stable for me and its always working hard. VIA + A64= much better than via + AXP.

SiS made the best early 754 chipsets, but nobody wanted to use them. In fact, SiS has always been superior to VIA, but can't shake their "cheap" image.

I have yet to build an A64 system on a via board. I know I will have to at some point, so it would be helpfull to know of good products. What board are you using?
BTW, like Crashman, I have had more than enough troubles with via chipsets, and try to avoid them.

I really like the advice that Chuck gave you... he made some stellar choices. I will let you know however, that I have made an s939 with both the MSI Neo2 Plat, and the Asus A8V-E (PCI-e) and I have had no problems with either (knock on wood). The VIA chipset has had no problems, and I was actually really impressed with the Asus peripherals on the board. That said... I bought this system for a friend, and they insisted on this board... I (like crashman) have been very tentative about investing money in the VIA chipsets. Given the choice between them, I would probably pick the MSI, but I wouldn't rule out a VIA chipset anymore... so if the price is right...

No probably more by the clock generating maybe? Perhaps that's why it varies from board to board, even with the same chipsets.
