Hello,

I found an Earthshaker on location today and played it for the first
time. It was really dirty and the GI was out, but the flippers were
strong. Since I never played I had a few questions. First, the music
worked, but no voices spoke during the 3 games I played. No "Bitchin"
or "It's sunny drive time" or anything. Second, the game never shook.
I got multiball a few times and aftershock multiball, but when is the
shaker supposed to kick in and what does it do?

Lastly, I know there is a spiral ramp in the upper left corner. It
never got used? I played ok I guess, I got around 4 million and a
replay on my first game, but I couldn't figure out how to get a shot up
there.

So I was just hoping someone could clarify what I missed or what was
wrong with this game.

Thanks,
Joe

Skill Shot uses the Spiral Ramp.

Yep, the spiral is the plunge skill shot. The game evidently had quite
a few problems. The spiral ramp must have been busted to the point that
it blocked the plunge shot. The shaker must have been broken also,
definately runs during aftershock. Sound board's speach was messed up.
Too bad, don't base your opinion of the pin on that location. IMO one
of the best sys 11 games.

The shaker motor can be disabled in the setup menu, so its possible
that is why it wasn't working. Not necessarily broken, but you never
know.

The game always says "It's sunny drive time" when started if I
remember correctly.

Great game, I play the hell out of it whenever I go to my dad's
house.

I had this problem with the sound, there is a connection from the mpu
to the sound board, has 3 wires. I replaced the molex connectors on
this & everything came good.
Shaker motor can be disabled in the menu, or the brushes on the motor
could be worn. It also uses a small pcb by the motor that could be the
problem, or just the usual solenoid driver board problems.

Someone mentioned a possible cable problem ... hopefully that's all it
is. Can you hear the voices say anything, even very faintly? Speech
is generated on the CPU board, then amplified on the Auxiliary Sound
Board. If the cable is bad, usually you can still hear the voices
very faintly in the background.

Regarding the shaker motor, most of the time it is the "brushes" that
wear out. These used to be available, but I can't find anyone who has
them in stock right now. I'm not sure if a shaker motor brush from
one of the DE/Sega/Stern(?) games would work or not.

I once read that the motor brushes could be retrofitted with similar
parts used on motors for RC cars. I have never had to try that, so I
don't know what to look for.

If you pick up the ES and want some help with this, let me know...

The plunger should shoot the ball through the spiral ramp. Did it
look like this part was in okay shape? These are very hard to find...
