Hi,

I can't find any articles about the RAID vs NON-RAID issue. I remember there were a couple of review/comparison about doing raid or not...

I hope someone can help me on this one!

Am I totally missing something, or are you just not making sense? What RAID vs. non-RAID issue? Are you talking about performance advantages over non-RAID of RAID 0? RAID 1? RAID 3? RAID 5? RAID 0+1? Or are you talking about hard drive corruption? Or driver problems? Or what?

Are you wanting to know the performance diff of running two HD's in RAID as opposed to running them as Master/Slave

Yup, basically, I need comparison charts for RAID and NON-RAID setup. I remember a couple of time ago there was debates about using RAID or not using RAID for the average users. These articles made me choose to non configure my HDD in RAID setup.

I want to find those articles... I remember one reviews included Windows Load Time, and games load time comparison for different RAID setup and RAID controller versus normal setup (lonely EIDE drive).

The problem is that I can't find those articles from my searches on Google and various review websites.

Thanks for your help guys!

Would the RAID come off of the Northbridge or SouthBridge? I really doubt that for normal use your going to notice RAID. I may be wrong. If you want to speed up your boot time then we need to get into your services.msc and shut some things down that shouldnt be running. On my benchmarking RAID HD's after the system boots up you can open the task manager and there will only be around 85mb of memory being used. That is a fast bootup.

I agree with you, but I have a friend who would like to see benchmarks results. Becaue he is going to buy 2 or 3 HDD depending on the level improvement RAID would procure him based on is PC usage.

Is RAID would be based on the Intel Chipset (s775).

Okay, but what hard drive platforms and what types of RAID? And are you now asking us for old articles on lousy setups or new articles with state of the art equipment? Are you just asking for articles that prove your PoV, or articles that tell the complete truth regardless of PoV?

The articles I search are not so old, the articles were like "Is using RAID setup worth the money of a second HDD for average user?". I remember that setup were based on available integrated solutions (integrated to MoBos) with 1 plug-in card for comparison.

I know that RAID can really kick butts when it comes to big files handling, etc... I hoped that someone would remember or have links to those articles I talk about. I found a lot of "high-end" RAID reviews, but it's not what I search for!

Only one I remember is from Anandtech <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2101" target="_new">here</A>. From searching, I also found this one from 4 yrs ago at Anandtech <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=1491" target="_new">here</A> but I don't know if it will help.

I don't peruse that many sites though...

Mike.

That is the same review that came to mind, on Anandtech's site. The review is very harsh and critical of RAID. It says "there is no need for RAID in desktop systems." I seem to agree and disagree. It depends what you are using your system for. If you use it to send e-mail, type documents, or even play games, you will not notice much of a improvement. If you use your system for video editing, movies, and other large files, than it may be very useful. I personally play games and do video editing, and my RAID array really is helpful. What used to take 45 minutes to compile and write a DVD video of around 4 GB on a WD 80 GB w/8MB, now takes around 15 minutes on the RAID array. I have 2x74GB Raptors in RAID 0, and wow are they fast. When you install XP Pro in about 9 minutes, and can boot XP in about 5 seconds, you know they are really working. I am not really sure if its due to the 10,000 RPM drives or the RAID. The RAID really becomes a GIANT boost when moving, copying, and editing large files. HDTach shows 102 MB/sec sustained read, and around 80 MB/sec write. I use my 80GB drive now as a backup drive.

My System:

I knew the answer, but I wanted to find the articles to show benchmarks to one of my friend.

I don't have the Answer for everything, I still learn everyday.

Thanks again guys!
