Netbook screen broken

A while ago I broke my netbook's screen, so I ordered a new one. I got it specifically for the Toshiba NB505, because that's what the netbook is.

After replacing it, it still didn't work, so I bought a cable that connects the screen to the netbook and replaced that. Now the backlight turns on (an improvement), but there is no video on the screen at all.

I've tried booting into Lubuntu (the OS that I had on the thing) and it detects the monitor as a "DVI monitor," plus the VGA monitor that I plugged up to it through the VGA port.

How can I fix this screen? As I said, only the backlight works. No video of any kind.

See, I already tried all of that. I actually used that video procedure initially when I first bought he screen. Now, after trying again, the netbook won't even power on! I did exactly as that video said, very carefully, and didn't bend any connectors or ports. How can it just die like this? Is switching out the monitor really such an issue?
