I downloaded both the 64-Bit and 32-Bit versions (32-Bit once i realized VPC 2007 wasn't going to run the 64-Bit version).
So far, i haven't seen a lot of changes. Still very much like Vista. I didn't have the opportunity to test out any drivers and/or software seeing as how i'm using virtualization so hardware acceleration is out of the question.
Still though, Windows 7 seemed to boot fairly quickly, (Quad Core processor and 8 gigs of Ram helps out a bit). Installation was smooth, seemed to take some time though, i'm assuming though because it's beta, MS will still a lot of debug code inside the OS until the release candidate arrives.
So for the guys who had little to no trouble getting it up and running, what do you guys think? Is this something you think you will upgrade from Vista to Win7 or WinXP to Win7?
I most likely will upgrade once I get a copy that will load all of the drivers needed for my hardware. I had it on my machine last Friday, but took it off after an hour of looking for drivers for my sound card and dealing with Explore.exe and IExplore.exe errors. I sent in bug reports for them and reformatted my drive and loaded Vista back on. I will try again on the next release of Win7.
I have one question for the developers at M$ after messing with Windows 7:
What the hell took so long? I mean, I just don't get it. Yeah, maybe it runs a little faster, but the new taskbar is a POS. Anyway, I can't see what in the world they have spent probably millions of man-hours on. It is just a reskinned and slightly jazzed up Vista.
The moved some icons around, changed the way a few things open and close, but other than that, nothing.
Unless Windows 7 is MUCH better when it goes gold, I won't be springing $200 on it anytime soon.
I concur. As M$ usually does when they "upgrade", they don't fix anything that really needs fixing and they break what was working. Windows 7 is just like Vista except you can't do as much.
Have you gotten the 7100 RC already? Is it much different than 7077? I just installed 7077 and dont want to have to redo it unless it is really different.
