You can try it, but if the system is unstable, then that would be my first suspect. Personally, I'd just spend the extra to get a good PSU in the first place. If money is limited, then ou have to do what you can with what you've got...

heh so they are the same? how about them external connectors slot protections (the piece of metal that seperats the ports and the outside? they look different as my old board had serial port connectors and this one don't have them at all... its got usb and firewire and lan ports....., do i need to brute force the damn thing or do the mobo have something come prepared?

ok lost in space once again.... how do i dertimine the wattage of my power supply?????? any software do that???
July 15, 2005 3:46:22 AM

If you look at the label on the psu, it will tell you. Dont believe where it gives a total, multipy the rail voltages, by thier current, and add them up.

CSA requires a label. It's there, just might not be on one of the sides you can see. Usually you can see it when you open the case.

O.o ok
um how does this hard drive match up to the seagate one?

its ATA 133 so i'm assuming its better???

http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=224&mcid=...;/A>

the seagate one do, however, offers 60 month warrenty but the maxtor one offers 12 month, does this tell anything about the quality of them disks?

btw i'm looking for something that lasts for like 5 years here lol, longer if nessiary
Edited by TheHolyLancer on 07/15/05 01:37 AM.

July 15, 2005 5:37:49 AM

I'm not a big maxtor fan. They are noisey, and I had a lot fail about 2 years ago. I wont buy them again. The seagates are fast, quiet, and last well.

You get what you pay for...

The PSU is the heart and soul of any modern PC - don't skimp.

You could try Ebay and see what comes up. The one that Endyen suggested is a good compromise between performance and price - take a good look at it. I always prefer new - you have a way to get a replacement if something goes wrong and you know that it hasn't been abused by someone else.

hmmm how good is no name brand like speed? and what are named brands??? anyone?
July 15, 2005 5:49:23 PM

No-names are usually cruddy. Never heard of 'speed' brand... Did it come with the case? How much was the case & PSU? Then subtract the cost of just the case, and you know how much the PSU cost. If the difference is more than $25, I'd be surprised.

Good brands:
Fortron Source (FSP)
Sparkle (with FSP in part #)
OCZ
Enermax
Antec (the True... series)
Thermaltake

There are others but these are most common.

The stock cooler is good for mild OC. If you want to quiet the system doan and still get a good OC, then you can get a thermailright XP-90C with a good medium-rate Panaflo (total is around $50-60).

You should be able to get to 2.4ghz with the stock fan. Why not try first, before you spend $50. on something you may not need.
