Failed to uninstall hp printer

NEVER, EVER purchase HP JUNK. Using XP Home, This is a F4140 (aka F4100). Removed from Add/Remove programs. Tried to reinstall using complete module downloaded from HP (162Mb). It says software already installed so it won't install. Installation says its done but there's no printer, nothing to click on in programs. How inept can these people be? So I can't uninstall it and I can't install it. The uninstall all hp products says theres nothing to remove. Then the install program tells me the software is already installed. I need a cleaner like you can get for Norton/Symantec. Something that will purge the registry of all the hp residue fowling up the process. Thanks for any help
