When i try installing Windows 2000 Professional I get an one of these errors after the dos setup and it resets to go into the GUI part of the install "Unexpected Kernal Mode Trap" or "Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal"... or it just reboots when it gets to the part where an error would come up... i have no clue why it does this... but i really need to find a way to fix it... any help would be much appreciated...

Can you post the <i>exact</i> error? If that was, it's not helping much cuz I was trying to look for it.

What do you mean when you want to know what the whole error was...Tell me what you want to know...that’s just the message it said on the error what else is there to say about it?

Excuse me? I thought I <b>was</b> trying to help? I just wanted to know if that was the whole error or not, because after a few minutes of searching, I couldn't find much to go with that. That's why. But by the looks of it, maybe you're too ticked to receive any help. Next time, post back in here, not with an email. Everyone should see the posts, unless it's personal, since all of us can try to help.

I don't know if it's because of this problem, but I guess I can let this one slide. But if someone starts sounding cocky, I'm not going to want to help.

Anyways, with one search in Google, this is what came up:
<A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q155119" target="_new">Cannot Start Windows NT 4.0 After Installing Previous Version</A>

The spelling of the first error you said should be Kernel with two e's...<i>kernel</i> (FYI).

Were you trying to upgrade a system or was that a clean install, where you format the partition you're installing to? Also, I'm wondering if that sound card is supported, because I think that's a pretty old model, right? Yup, it is...it's an ISA card, even. (<A HREF="http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=14&OS=6" target="_new">Link to Windows 2000 driver page - I think</A>) I would try removing that sound card, then starting a clean install again. Hopefully you can get by with the other components.

sorry if i sounded rude when i said that... i didn't mean it like that... i just didn't know what you ment by the whole error... there was a bunch of numbers and stuff... but i didn't really think that was important... i can go back and look at it again too see exactly what it was... and the sound card i'm using is supported actually... i've had windows 2000 installed on my computer before with the same components... i just dont know why it wont work anymore... i always do a clean install when i install an OS... but for some reason it dosent work anymore.

Yeah, the whole error even means the numbers. In the Microsoft Support site, numbers mean things, at least in terms of searching. If you get the error again, write the whole thing down.

I find that odd that it worked before, and now it's not. Perhaps you overclocked something in the BIOS? If not, I guess all I can suggest is to do a clean install without that sound card, regardless if it worked or not.

Good luck...

i know it kinda sounds weird that it worked before and it dosent now... but thats the truth... a friend of mine thinks it could be a problem in the master boot record... but i dont know how i would go about fixing that... I'm gonna try installing it again tomorrow and I'll write down the entire message when i do that... but until then this is all i know... i'll get back with ya though... thanks for the help
