For all of you Liquid cooling people ive got a fairly cheap solution to get you below ZERO C. I already had a liquid cooling setup, so keep in mind that im only including the cost of the new equipment.

5 cubic' compact freezer
20' X 2 of soft copper line
3 rolls of pipe insulation
3 rolls of insulated tape
3 rolls of electrical tape

I got the freezer brand new for $99.00 on sale. The line is the only other significant expense. It was less than $30.00 for 40' of line and you could get away with 20'. The advantage to the extra 20' roll is that you can leave it coiled inside the freezer and not even worry with a resivior. I would suggest using the extra roll as a coil and using a resivior. This way you can submerse the coil in a seperate res inside the freezer. You better study up on insulating the Mobo and CPU socket because this thing gets really cold. Ive had mine up and running for the past 4 days and the only problem that I have encountered is the liquid freezing when im not using the system. This can be easily avoided by either turning the frezzer setting to min or by using your system 24/7 folding for THGC :)

So far I have easily hit -10C and still have room to go lower. Im not going any lower until I get a new CPU waterblock that doesnt have an acrylic top like mine does. From what I hear Acrylic will crack at low temps. You will also need a heavy duty pump. I suggest an inline that is capable of 700 GPH or more. If you would like to see pics of my setup, PM me your e-mail addy.

Well thanks for nothing! I already have it there also, but since there is very little traffic in that section and a whole lot of traffic up here I thought that it may reach more people here. I was just trying to pass on what i thought was a good cheap alternative to the pahse systems on the market. If its that big of a deal I guess I can delete the focking post.

Sounds rather cool to me using a coil to transfer heat to and from the freezer. Have you tried a mixture like antifreeze to prevent freezing? Just in case you turn off your system and you have no flow through the heat exhanger you made that is.

What is your actual cpu tempertures at 100% usage. Great idea.

Are you sure about the pump capacity? Wouldn't that circulate all the water in under 2 seconds?

Reply to endyen

Im using a winterizing Antifreeze made by Preston. Its good to -50C which is way lower than I would be able to go.

Its been as low as -10C and that is the CPU temp. I got a temp reading of -25C on the liquid. That was with an infrared temp gauge.

I think the GPH is about like Wattage is with PSUs. There isnt a set standard for how they come up with the numbers. I think it may have been Scottchen that mentioned this. One brand may base their numbers on the output at 10' and a more reputable brand may base it on the output at 20' Im not sure what mine is based on.

Im using almost 40' of 1/4" ID copper line and a res thats close to 3 Gallons. Most of the copper line is inside the frezzer and makes up the coil. It spits it through faster than any of the other pumps that i have used but the reason that I got one that size is because of the subzero temps. It may be overkill but its hard to say at the moment. Time will tell, I just hope that the pump can withstand those temps for an extended period of time.

How much do they cost used? You may be correct, but half of the reason I enjoy this crap is making something myself. The other thing that I like about this is the fast that it is capable of cooling the CPU, NB and the GPU. I dont know what those Vaporchill do to the electricity bill but this compaq freezer running 24/7 will hardly be noticeable. So far it hasnt even run 24/7

Ive done this before with a $99 special from best buy and it really works! However, its murder to the power bill when running it all day long.

Was your a 5 cubic'? The power sticker indicates very little consumption. I know that its not factoring in 24/7 use but it was low.I'll find out soon enough.

I still cant beleive how cold this thing will get.

Not certain, sold it on my last move. I wasnt running it 27/7 but it was from when I woke up till I sleep. Those power stickers are assumming that you will not put a persistenly hot obect inside it and not running all day long. Getting those "Energy Star" rated one are a must or that will power bill will be even higher.
