What is AMD 64 Opteron
Last response: in CPUs

It is the server version of the 64.
These chips are basically the same, but they can be used in multi-CPU configurations.

requires slower but more stable error correcting memory. This ram is a little slower and more expensive. Opteron cpu need 940 chipset 1 more pin for ram.
If your not running a mission critical server forget about it.
stick with a64 or fx on 939 platform.
If u want amd that is.
If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

Well he didn't exactly answer the question. He kinda lied to you. What you really need to know is that an "Opteron" is a pre-built customizable AMD system. It usually comes with a GeForce X800GT in RAID with a Nvidia 7800XL. The RAM usually comes in a dual RAID configuration as well but has 2x256GB but if you can get this upgraded to 512GB on a single stick that is better (go with value ram cause it is cheaper even if you can only get DD3). As far as hard drives go I would SLI-5 a couple of 13GB Seagate Raptors and set up SLI-1 on some 26GB WD Barracudas. The VIA chipset on the MSI LanParty NF4 board is an obvious choice for the mobo IMO, but the integrated sound sucks (like on all of the new mobos) and you will probably want to get a Dolby Audigy 8.6 sound card to really round out the package.
Wow, looking back at it, this system could really chew up any rig I have ever built... GO OPTERON!!!
Go date P4man or something, bye!

I think initially people were just making fun because they were surprized he didn't know what an opteron is and he called the other AMDs "normal". I just kinda got carried away, but it was not meant to be a bash at Turk really... I just wanted to be silly. I rarely make posts that are intended to be cruel (although I can see how this one could be percieved that way).

Just remember that sometimes the people that replies are sometimes tired, cranky, having a bad day, with a bad case of diarrhea etc. So just don't take things personally, and remember that if you ask something stupid you're going to be stupid once but if you don't ask you're going to keep being stupid plus ignorant.
I think the best choice is try to google what you want to learn so you can at least make an intelligent question.
Don't worry and keep posting =)
