Ever get to urge to dump a DMD for something "classic"?

Guys, I've got this Jurassic Park. Works great, but my wife doesn't
care for it, and it doesn't have any "soul". In fact, I think very few
DMD games have any soul. They generally feel obnoxious and artificial
to me.

Anyone wanna trade me something older for it? St Louis area.

Jim,
If you can get what that JP is worth then If it was me I'd be
looking for a Classic System 11 game ,,, I've started buying them &
they play just as good or better than anything else.
My 50 cents worth,

Pin-Del,

I have become more interested in older SS than the DMD games as well.
I still like DMD games, but they are not the end all be all for me. I
live in the St Louis area, are there any specific titles that you are
looking to buy or trade for? I am not interested in JP, but I may have
something or know someone in town that may want to make the trade.

Gosh

Why cant this be closer to Detroit. I am in the process of moving out
all my older classics for newer dmd titles. Seems to me the kids get
more play time out of the newer than older. Id be intrested in the JP,
and willing to do a 2 for one swap with ya. But with gas prices and
shipping the way it is now, its never going to happen. Good luck with
your trade

Sometimes a few sentences of rules and a great layout are better than
30 pages of lousy rules and a lousy layout. And vice versa (and move
the 'lousies' over to the other side of the equation). Quantity ain't
quality. I can't go along with any generalization that EMs are better
than DMD games or DMDs are better than EMs, sorta like saying all small
books are better than big thick ones, or the other way around. It's
what's written in them that matters.

You know funny thing is I just had the same realization.

I sold my last DMD (WH2O) a while back to get a little cash to get a
lot of pins.

They are all older. I bought it to get the Comet, but turns out I just
love the Laser Cue. It is an awesome game. I've actually been playing
it more than I did any of my DMD games (TZ, Shadow...) Don't get me
wrong, I still miss the TZ, but I've came to realize that I could have
4 or 5 decent games like Laser Cue for the cost of the TZ.

What's even funnier is that, if you read RGP long enough, you almost
start to believe that:

- everyone else has at least 15 pins in their collection
- they are all collector quality
- everyone else can afford to spend $5000+ for ONE game
- everyone else owns a MM
- DMDs are superior to EM and SS games because they have "deep rules"

Am I missing anything ?

well damn. Now I'm confused... Does he BOIL them or BROIL them? I've
been reading RGP for a couple years now, I thought for sure he broiled
them... but now you say boil. I'm gonna have to go look through google
now to find out for sure.

Hmm.. I've got one of those too. :) If I could find a decent one for
a good price I'd pick it up. Mainly because of the theme rather than
the gameplay.

Eh.. not always.. I have a lot of games in my collection, true, but
none of them are collector quality.... yet... I did, however, just pick
up a cheap Night Rider just so I could listen to some chimes once in a
while. :)

There's now a BK where my WCS '94 used to be.

<<I get games that I like
to play now. I also personally feel that the 90's games are ugly, with
exposed switches, optos, and light bulbs wire tied all over to the tops
of
metal habitrails and ramps. >>>

"Ugly" is pushing it bigtime, but I'll say that a really nicely drawn
and lit EM is pretty without an attract mode. Compared to today where
the mesmerizing flashing can really make the game LOOK more attractive
along with the dmd playing clips etc. but - if a TZ was just sitting
there without any attract mode and just a few feature lamps were lit
like an EM, it loses a lot looks-wise. When I turn on one of my dmd
games (ones that have a lot of "junk" on the playfield) and just the GI
comes up, it's like, damn, good thing it doesn't look like THAT all the
time!

Yeah, you can debate this until the ends of the Earth. I grew up and love
Williams and Gottlieb 70's ems, but my all time favorite pin is Fun House,
Jurrasic Park a close second I think.

Amen, brother Dave! Sometimes the DMD masturbation that takes place here on
RGP gets overwhelming.

Thank goodness for System 80 and Gottlieb electromechanicals!

Hmmm I guess I've never bought machines purely on the "soul"
quotient myself. I think I'd look elsewhere for something like that.

So why have you been $%^& with them all this time? Just finally come
to this conclusion?

Yeah I'm sure yanking the DMD and most of the rulesets will give
a machine more "soul"... Those drop targets sure are soulful indeed.

Nice to see ever growing number of converts throwing off their DMD
shackles to embrace the Classic SS pins. (Bally and Stern of course)

As much as I like the "nostalgic" games of my youth, most have left for
DMD's.

I have MM, CV, AFM, Sopr, and BSD.

I still have Stern Split Second and Xenon at my brothers house. So I
guess I still have a little "Old School" in me.

My former machines include CV, AFM, ST:TNG, GNR. My current line-up
includes Medusa, KOS, Genie & Taxi, with hopefully a Xenon or Paragon in the
future. Enough said.

>Ever get to urge to dump a DMD for something "classic"?

Short answer is: no. When I go to shows, I play one or two of the old
classics that I loved as a kid. By the end of the first ball I'm
usually praying that it's not a five ball game. DMD all the way for
me.
