There isnt a 232 port on my windows xp computer how do I get a usb to usb cable

Did you install the driver for it? Best way is to contact the vendor they can get you trouble-shooting steps to try. There is no real way to test it unless you have a ohm meter or something, but that will just tell you if there is signal on the connectors not if it's working right.
