computer acting weird

I just reformatted windows xp, sp 1.
When my computer starts up, it takes ages to load. The only things at start up are AVG, msn messenger, and zone alarm. I had more things at start up before the reformat, and it's slower now.
Specs are:
Dell Dimension 8100
P4 1.5 ghz
512 mb ram
GeForce 2 MMX 32 mb

Chipset Drivers? Sounds like it's using some really slow hard drive access method, thought that said I would expect XP's built-in drivers to be fine for a machine of that age.

Did you use a Dell recovery disk (I'm assuming you got one with the PC) or a fresh copy of XP?

Have you reconfigured anything hardware wise?
