Problem with my touchpad selection

I am using Acer emachine E525 series laptop with vista os .i have problem with the touchpad .ie; m able to move the cursor but not able to do selection.. wats the reason for that . i uninstalled and reinstaled the driver . i will work sometimes . afterward it will stop working . y s it so??

Could be the cable between the pad and the motherboard has been damaged by heavy handed typing. Relatively simple to fix if you can get the parts and don't do more damage removing the faulty ones.

Meanwhile use an external mouse (which is much better anyway).
