When i turn on computer check signal cable hdmi

when i turn my computer my samsung monitor stays dark, except for check signal cable box floating around. Can anyone explain to a computer illiterate. Thanks, Joe

Most likely the cable that connects the monitor to the back of the computer is loose at one end.
