AllTaken, if ever anyone should find anything they wanted in New Zealand and was stupid enough to attack you, I wonder just who you would look to first to come to your rescue?
Perhaps the North Koreans would like one of your mountain tops to launch nukes from so they could destroy the "imperialist pigs".
It wouldn't surprise me if your distaste for America caused you to hide in the mountains on the east side of New Zealand with a radio and spot American planes for the communist good.
It's people in the world who think like you that make me wish that instead of America taking up arms for the freedom of the common man that we would just mind our own business take care of ourselves and screw the rest of the world. Just think how strong and secure we could be if our resources were kept here at home and used to feed and take care of our own instead of using a great portion of our wealth to defend the oppressed.
Stop and try to imagine the world today without American involvement in the world wars I and II. without the expensive cold war that caused the topple of the largest strongest communist empire on earth.Do you have any idea how the poor American suffered to fuel the fight against communism? I certainly don't think that you do. Nor do I think that you consider any harsh realities beyond your automatic reflex to bitch and gripe.
There are a lot of things in this world that are worth fighting for and no fight is pretty. Thank God that idealist like you aren't the ones responsible for freedom in this world, if so theres a good chance that you wouldn't be free to express your views.America certainly would be all the more the center of your envy if we Americans had stayed out of WWII. You would probably be speaking Japanese and wouldn't have the freedom to speak your mind on political matters, while America would be even richer and stronger.
I understand your wishful and idealistic thinking, however mankind hasn't reached the capability of conducting himself in a manner that would allow the type of non aggressive world you imagine.
You paint the USA as an aggressor that stomps on little helpless countries. Bull, What did America do after WWII with the countries that were saved from German rule. They gave them their freedom and self government that's what. Many of the very countries that America came to the aid of during WWII now oppose us politically and have become a thorn in our side.
The Italians, French and Germans all have opposed us in the current engagement in Afghanistan and Iraq. Do you know why? I'll tell you why, it's because they were trading with Iraq. A large part of their oil came from Iraq and they didn't give a damn about what Saddam did to his people or that terrorists were being harbored and trained in Afghanistan. The Germans are the ones that Saddam contracted with to build his bunkers. That contract alone was worth billions to German companies.
The communist Italian journalist bitch is back in the headlines accusing the US of trying to kill her. Get real. This is exactly what I'm talking about "a thorn in our side".
Just look at the jelly spine UN. This supposed world police cartel is mainly made up of these countries that are aligned against the US in almost every world political endeavor. Yet they steal the money and turn their heads in the oil for food program in Iraq. Makes you wonder if perhaps the thought of that honey pot drying up might have had a lot to do with the opposition to invading Iraq.

As an American, I feel similarly. However, there are any number of reasons why some others who live in countries we feel our are allies might have opinions like Alltaken expresses.
Right or wrong my opinion is that it has more to do with George W's approach to foriegn policy than a real hatred for things American. As president he simply does not engender trust abroad.
Sure there were countries dealing with Hussain during the embargo and they (read FR and GE and RU too) were making a nice piece of change while doing it. All the facts are still being uncovered but it will be embarrasing to those governments when it gets out. I don't think there was as much anti-american sentiment about over Afgan conflict as there was (and is) when we invaded Iraq. Truthfully, although I know the world is a better place without Saddam and in the long run Iraq will recover, I still believe deep in my heart that we should have rooted out OBL rather than doing what we did.
That bold and partisen move made many of our "allies" have to save face when they didn't want to. I know to some that dosen't matter but in the world of politics it does.
We have made many political decisons based on what was best for America or other not so savory reasons. An example is our help of the Afgan rebels, I recommend anyone who is interested to read "Blowback" by Chalmers Johnson. It explains (but never tries to condone) OBL's hatered of the US he once was an ally to.
Its a very difficult subject to discuss. I love this country and what it stands for. I support the troops who are putting their lives on the line day after day over there. They beleive they are doing what they must to bring a stable government to the area and I agree it has to play out that way now. We are committed.
We are viewed as an extension of how our government acts. Lots of countries view us as cowboys, loaners, or even imperialists. I know that isn't what the America I know and love stands for. We can try and explain like you have and wish others will see it our way. Maybe it will work but it s along road ahead because global media is already fast at work generating all the negative press they can muster to add to their version of the truth. Its not goin to be an easy road. I do believe that if George W tries to make some more and better overtures our once staunch allies than positive relations will begin to grow again.

I agree Gary. I can see people having a feeling of dread. I compare it to my days growing up during the cold war. In my mind as a youngster the Soviet Union was a powerful enemy that could cause great harm to my country and my family. I could understand how foreigners could have similar feeling about the might of the United States. I also see how G.W. Bush's firm and decisive foreign policy could add to these concerns.
However I must argue the other side, or to say the advantage of President Bush's firm political hand. People must admit that knowing that evil deeds will bring quick and decisive action from the United States acts as a deterrent in it's self. A good example is the long time scoundrel Libya's Muammar QADHAFI. After seeing the US's reaction in Afghanistan and Iraq he was bending over back wards to assure the world that he wanted no further part in terrorist activities. There are probably other benefits that we will never know about. There is something to be said for Bush's aggressive campaign against terrorist. I am also quite proud of the way he is handling the U.N. with his current nomination of doodle butt....John Bolton ... (thats it) clearly expresses his disappointment with the current affairs at the UN.
Yea our President Bush is a little blunt with his world affairs/politics but that may not be an entirely bad thing given our current situation in the middle east.

sorry i think its funny you find me an idealist.
i am mearly idealogical in your eyes because i come from a culture far different from yours. My ideas and thinking is the norm over here, infact all you see around (at university, friends, family, news, blah blah) is pretty in line with what i think.
you know our country offered its support to you after 9-11. that is fine with me, that is cool. i wasn't super happy about it, but in the end it needed to happen for a number of politcal reasons.
you know what single move made everyone (all these old allies of yours) not like you? it was called Iraq. you realise that most of these countries that "dislike" the US now gave their full support for afganistan.
just because we are not your puppets doesn't mean we are idealogical, it mearly means we are not blind sheep that cannot make their own decisions.
face the fact that the world is a group of individual countries that are capable of making their own mind up about things, then you might realise that the US's way is not the only way, and you might realise that for all the US's might it really isn't the king of the world.
once you realise that you will realise that co-operation is the only way to surive this world without getting millions killed, and co-operation happens on all countries terms, not just the US terms.
sorry but your post is pretty short sighted.
BTW i i judge the US soley by its actions, when the US starts to act reasonable (as an entity) then i will change my opinion of it. but all i have seen in the last 1.5 terms is real negative. you have the ability to earn real respect (not just fear) back for your country, but it ain't happening in bush's term.
its kinda funny that you are still wondering why 80% of the western world looks down upon the US as an agressor now. there must be some truth to it if the numbers are that high. if there is no truth then theres gotta be a damn smart proparganda organisation trying to destroy the US LOL (what a joke)

i'm on no ones side and for that, no one is on my side. on my side, there is only one side. there is no this country or that country, there is only fellow humans. i don't understand why people have to pick side to fight over about... do people from a block up the street fight with the people from the block on the south trying to say who is better?
we are ALL sheep! we have fallen dumb to each labeled lands government which is run by politicians. it will continue being this way until we the people learn to unite as a whole on a global scale and then all this turmoil will perish. New zealand is one of the most scenic places i know about. america has some of the worlds most beautiful wonders. people from both of these lands are warm, so why must we fight over governments with each other?
i'm sure you're a hell of a guy to have a beer with, russ. and i'm sure i could spend hours working with alltaken in a woodshop. we all would get along just fine without politicians. this whole thing is a cockfight and the sad reality of cockfights is the cocks fight each other for no other reason than not having a mind of their own. we're all of the same species, why do we have to treat ourselves like we're not? we should be a pack, united.
some of you might think i'm anti america from my posts if you don't know me well enough, but i'm not and i've never said that. all my life, i've lived in three countries, two of which are america and iran. i hate both governments with irans being at the top of the list. bunch of fukcing vultures trying to enforce their false islamic ways on hundreds of thousands of people. i'd kill em all, given the power to. now imagine i said that about the US, wouldn't that sound bad! no, not unless you think i'm an immigrant who should go back to where i came from. i feel the exact same way about politicians here.
anyway, we're all equals and should never want anything but the best for each other. no one is more important than another.

On one side, you have Alltaken, who is one of the most negative people I've seen on this forum. On the other side you have pretty much everyone else who just doesn't want to hear his baseless opinion that he bases upon his 200 friends who agree with everything he says.
It's quite simple.
80% of the western world doesn't think we're the aggressor and when you talk to people out in this world this is what they have to say: "George Bush is a Monkey. I hate him. He talks funny. He's stupid."
I'm not going to give that 2 seconds of my time.
If Iraq is the problem then it's because of patriotism and propaghanda. Each country hyped up their point of view in their press, almost to the point of absurdity. I broke this down before though and despite the USA's (and world's completely pathetic intelligence) it's fairly obvious that each country went in the direction of thier own best interest. In the USA's case you can argue the monetary reasons, but I think based upon what we knew at the time that it's safe to say that we were playing it better safe than sorry. In other country's situations they stood to lose 10's of Billions of dollars and thus were completely against the war. To them, they weren't worried about Iraq as much as losing the money since they must have felt that they were less of a target than the USA or Israel. It's very much like North Korea today where China could frankly care less since North Korea is not a threat to them. Why should they interfere in their neighbors business when it can only benefit them to stay out of it? In Iraq there were oil contracts, weapons contracts, and a great deal of corruption that benefited the biggest nay sayers of that war. Some of it has already been released and more is to come. Now if I was French I would look at this war as very bad for my country since I would lose about 70B of oil contracts, a large amount of weapons contracts, as well as any future stake in Iraq's commodities. Of course they're going to be against it. Nonetheless it's so easy to forget what it was like before the war. About 3 million people (iirc) died due to the sanctions. There wasn't a day that went by where allied forces in the no fly zones were either fired upon or had a radar installation activated on their position. There was an assasination attempt on the former President Bush. President Putin had informed us that Iraq was planning terrorist attacks against US targets both abroad and domestically. Iraq was not cooperating with any of the 2 dozen or so UN resolutions, let alone the cease fire. We had no way to account for those weapons and they weren't cooperating by either disclosing how they were destroyed, where they were, how they expired, or what other intentions they had, such as the nuclear weapon program that they had hidden away. They weren't giving us access to their scientists.
I could go on. We all know this though. It's just that some choose to ignore it.
You have to ask yourself whether you think more weapons inspections after 12 years would have helped. Another month maybe like the French wanted? We still wouldn't have found anything based on what we know now. We needed the Iraqi goverment to cooperate in order for this war to be avoided. Unfortionately they were being fed intelligence from the French that we were bluffing.
We weren't.

This would be great in a perfect world, however that isn't the case and I'm sorry to say that I don't think that it's apt to be the case for quite some time. Until human beings become capable of achieving such common sense methods the world will need strong nations that are willing to fight for the freedoms of their fellow mankind. You should be glad that a democracy such as the US is that world power. Perhaps you would be happier with communism and then you wouldn't have to think for yourself nor would you be allowed to bad mouth your communist leaders and government.
Perhaps your country would like to be the one who sends their sons, daughters, fathers and mothers to fight in foreign lands for the freedoms of other peoples. The US may be better than some other countries, however i would hope that the super power could be the best IT COULD BE, rather than the best of the worst. currently the US is sitting just above china india and russia as the best super powers.
soon the EU will be the major super power (or china, it depends) at this time i am "hoping" that they will be better than the previous super powers.
its interesting, Europe was a crap super power when they colonised most of the world. they killed millions, then the US became the biggest super power, europe calmed down and became pretty sedate, now the US is on a little shopping spree, they will eventually be replaced by another country as super power, whether it be during a war or economically i don't know. this new super power will most likely be nice for a few years will they gain peoples trust and respect, then it will absolutly crap on everyone else from other countries, at which time yet another super power will be growing, this new one will take over....
nobody in power in history has been a "nice" super power, well not for long, there is always somthing that stuffs it up.

thats a bit of an insult, sorry but sent people to afganistan, we have people in iraq now, we have people all over the world peace keeping.
we just don't do it under agression. we only send in peace keepers. these peace keepers are backing the US up, by helping the re-building efforts.
is it not respectable to want to keep blood off your hands?
i actually feel really sorry for the troops from the US in iraq right now, its really not their war, they are the ones dying.
i have NO respect for the people throwing them into the crap hole.

While digesting Reader's Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I'd tell her how good I feel.
Chorus:
But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
"If you join the Christmas club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free."
Well, I didn't mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife's forehead.
Repeat Chorus:
Well, I got my window shield so filled
With flags I couldn't see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead.
And I'll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said...
"But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
We're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more."

I admit I was rather against the way America conducts business, but its more deeprooted than that I have come to realize (theres alot of things about our society that irks me. i refer to us as north america not as canadians vs americans anymore ebcause we are really all the same).
I prefer to take a "dont know" stance nowadays, because in the grand scheme of things I really dont know anything. I think that very few people actually do know what is really happening in our governments, and that we are fed via mass media what they want us to think. Im totally serious, the human mind works differently as a society, compared to each individual person.

You think alot like I do. I believe that countries will become obsolete someday... there HAS to be a more truthful and efficient type of government than what we are using now.
But yet humans have tribal instincts deeply ingrained in us. Just look at Teetewl, he gets so pissed off when someone insults his government, even tho he probably has almost nothing to do with that government other than voting and doing tax returns. So in reality he has no control over that government, and yet he takes the criticism personally... I personally dont think that the land mass you are born on has anything to do with anything.
ANd I agree that the politicians are the problem. A bunch of fat white old men. Humans get stubborn and stuck in their old ways with age and even tho I agree that wisdom comes with experience, with the amount of money and power these people hold that i bet wisdom has nothing to do with it (other than wise ways to line ones pockets).
I see politicians as professional liars and not much more. And journalists USED to pride themselves in delivering the news (I have a friend whos a freelance journalist and hes disgusted with the state of the media nowadays) but now its just ratings and sensationalism. I cant trust ANYTHIGN I see on TV anymore so i stopped watching it.
This is why I take a "dont know" stance now. And I think it would be better if most people did, beacuse you probably dont!!!

| Quote : All I'm trying to do is cause you to realize that it's great to have aspirations of a peaceful world but it will never happen without dealing with the harsh realities decisively. |
sorry? i actually know all this.
i don't have a view of the world as a fluffly pillow.
the thing is, if everyone "gives in" and accepts the current norm as the way it will always be, then you may as well kill yourself then and their. you need to have a goal of things getting better (whether it will come true or not) otherwise you will become as bad as the people you dislike.
the first person to stand down in an argument somtimes wins, not through making a point, but by displaying their responsible actions, 9this goes with pick your battles wisely, because some battles are necisary i must admit)
i can only coment on what is happening now, and who i feel is being positive or negative in these times, (or in the past) its purly subjective.
however from these views of what is happening you can estimate a future, I personally do not want a future like how it is heading right now.
you know the movie gattaka? (or is it a c i forget)
well that movie was a prophesy, it was an estimation of the future based on what was happening and emerging then. scarily many things in that movie are coming more and more real. i know it was only made 8 years ago, but a lot has changed towards the outcomes.
if you know your future, you can change it. but why don't we? its because humans are stupid. everyone gets jobs for money and never looks at the moral values of what they do, nobody is accountable for what the organisation as a whole does.
its not the accountants fault the manager threatened to fire him if he didn't make things add up, its not the managers fault for being told he needs to earn 10% more this year for the stock holders....
nobody is accountable for their actions, the big bad machine runs with only 1% of people being bad.
its EVERYONE's responsibility to stop that and make things, better, but thats easier said than done, i know that. but its a challenge. and i like a challenge.
its the people doing stupid stuff that ruins it for everyone else. the patriot act for example was created as a result of destructive actions, but it ends up removing the rights of everyone, not just those who are causing the problems.
you want a world like that? i certainly don't so i will NEVER accept it as the way it will be forever. i can accept it is a reality, but i will not accept i am helpless to do anything about my little corner of the world. enough people thinking positivly can change a lot of stuff.

I don't want you to leave....I said you have that option...That is not a redneck reaction. I never said love it or leave it...So who's anger blinded them. Not this ol' redneck. I ain't mad. Not at you. According to Alltaken, New Zealand would be right up your alley. But, you stay here and try to make it better...Vote...Run for office. Arnold got his citizenship and look where he is. We can only try. To make it better. But hammering away at the same pacifist bullcrap ain't gonna change shizznit. I want peace in this world too, but like my buddy Russ said...It ain't going to happen. I'll bet alltaken would kill for peace.....
GO BUCKS!
Not a bad attempt for someone with your obvious impairments.
I'm the good time that was had by all

Work sucks.
Arnold! yeah, look at him! heh heh heh. he's a politician too, though.
i love you all, just not the politician sides of you all. i like russ, and you. i hope you guys don't feel like i'm trying to attack you. in my previous post to you, where i said something about a redneck reaction, i wasn't saying you are one, i was comparing the responses.
like both phial and i have been saying, we just don't believe where you're born should make any difference. i'm from earth and i hate the fact that i'm limited to where i can go.
i always found it amusing how the first immigrants came to this land called america for their independence and freedom then turned around and killed the natives and took their land and freedom. nowadays, its as if no such thing ever happened and i see people with no native blood flowing through their veins get more riled up than the actual natives in discussions about american government... weird!
anyway, i seriously don't care what so-called land i step on, my set of beliefs tell me i can go where i wish and since there is no type of government that supports this, i'm against all of them.
