AMD 64FX vs 64 X2 for real time eSignal

Hello , all! My brother would like to know which AMD processor would be better for a new PC. He uses eSignal
real time charting ,and is currently using an AMD 2500 (1.8
Ghz) with Barton. On a 17" LCD monitor screen , he usually
has at least 8 eSignal real time charts up. Each chart has
a lot of stock chart indicators , like moving averages and
such, that also update in real time. He runs several other smaller programs besides eSignal at the same time,as well.

Currently ,everything slows down to a crawl and
"hourglasses" when he switches the eSignal charts from one stock to another one.
My main question , then ,is the AMD 64 X2 Dual Core processor with multi-tasking better ?
Or , would an AMD 64 FX processor be better?
The first one is better at multitasking , the second is
better at performance , like gaming.
Mostly what he needs is number crunching for the eSignal
stock charts and the real time indicators.

Recommendations from forum board members?
Many Thanks!

Is it the PC or his internet connection?

Any multi-core chip will suite him perfectly. I would save money and go for the 3800+X2 personally.

Does he have the $49/month plan? They put so many of those guys on one server, a K6-2 would be bottlenecked.
If he's paying the big bucks each month, other things he should look at are
1 onboard graphics with too little shared memory.
2 more "graphics aperture" than ram
3 too little system memory
4 a virus, or spyware
5 too much anti-virus, or anti-spyware
6 too many background progs/ too much on the start menu
7 dial-up, or crappy (a)dsl.
He's just loading a spreadsheet, my old 286 could do that.

That was what I was thinking - just not as deatialed as you stated it...

I don't know what plan he has with eSignal; If he comes over
tonight I'll ask about that and the rest of his system.
Also , I forgot to mention he runs two monitors from one
PC , and the second monitor also has multiple windows up.
I think he may have a Matrox card , but I don't know what kind , other than it's older than the Parhelia. Perhaps
a G--- Millennium , or something like that.
He connects to the internet via standard cable via Adelphia.
He has free Zone Alarm firewall, free AVG anti-virus by www.grisoft.com , and he uses Lavasoft's Ad-Aware.He also
keeps them updated regularly.

Many Thanks for all the helpful replies!

p.s. Myself , I'll be looking into getting some new parts
to go in my tower around January 2006 or later.
New Mobo , new graphics card , AMD 64 FX
processor , etc. I'm waiting for the Nvidia (BFG Tech?)
512 mb 7800 card.So I may be checking here for recommendations then. Thanks!
